PistonHeads, NZ midwinter run! - Details
Discussion
Ok here's the details.... you can take these as set in concrete from now on... if you can make it, then that's great, if not... never mind, there WILL be others :)
Date: - Sunday 24th July. Will be going ahead on this date provided the weather is fine. If it's wet, the postponment date will be Sunday 31st July. If it's a little bit damp or the risk of showers, we'll be on, but if it's properly wet, we'll postpone it.
Plan: - For those close to Auckland City, South Auckland, East Auckland (or practically anywhere but West Auckland). Assemble at the Auckland Domain, just in front/below the Auckland War Memorial Museum at 10am...
Will assemble there in what parking there is available. At around 10:40am we'll depart in convoy, travel through Parnell and onto the NW Motorway to WestGate Shopping Centre (End of the NW motorway, turn left and first left again).
Will reassemble there at around 11:15am and meet with anyone from the West/North who wishes to join in.
We'll all be here until about 11:45, so anyone who is running late can just meet us here if they wish.
From here we'll all travel off in convoy (directions will be given verbally at WestGate) through Parakai out to a lunch-stop and park-up HERE: www.macnut.co.nz/map.htm|http://www.macnut.co.nz/map.htm at around 12:30-12:45 (ish)
After a lunch stop, there'll be plenty of chance for a natter with some like-minded individuals about all things motoring and possibly even a photo-opportunity or two.
After lunch, we'll press on up the Peninsula over some WONDERFUL driving roads to the top, at South Head, stopping at some appropriate location for another park-up. After that we can all convoy back to Auckland and head our separate ways.
The invitation is open to ANYONE in ANY car. This is an event to just bring people together who want to enjoy driving some fine roads in some fine company with some fine automobiles. Feel free to bring a friend (either as a passenger or in another car) and extend invitations to other car clubs/organisations.
This event is not associated or affiliated with any club, and is just a gathering of like-minded individuals for a spirited drive on some wonderful New Zealand roads. Basically we're just trying to up the profile of the PistonHeads New Zealand motoring forum ( www.pistonheads.com/gassing|http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing ---> New Zealand ) as a way for such individuals to keep in touch online and indulge in the sort of activity that we all enjoy!
So... put the word out and hopefully we'll see you on the July 24th!

I just gave the cafe a call and its all good to go.
Phew, that's a relief!..... I can't go carrying flasks of soup around with me in the Elise... think of all the extra weight that takes up!!!!.... I'm even thinking of spending 3-weeks 24/7 in the sauna to get the car weight down.... the driver's the only fat bit on the car
Great work Kylie, this is going to be a lot of fun

There will even be some friends up at the Domain to greet the Lotii . . .
I believe this one's name is Colin (Chapman)
Hehe I do some work up at the museum and I saw that yesterday... very cleverly done indeed... at a glance looks realistic..... Can just imagine... if they'd had Lotuses in Jurassic park they'd have all been fine
Yeah I may as well.... Actually Kylie, if you like, if you have a mibile phone I can txt you as well so if needs be you can get an e-mail out to the committee of LCNZ.
But who cares... the weather's going to be lovely, the birds will be singing and I'm sure everything will be wonderful and utopia-like come sunday morning

Oooooooh sounds gooood... I'll give Jim a call tomorrow (TVR club) get him to put the word out.... NZTrev... you wanna put the word around the TVR boys from your end? I take it you'll still be bringing your beast even though it's for sale? good publicity... maybe someone's thinking about trading in their Lotus! :P
Jamieheasman? you in or out dude? You've been quiet through all this.
Glad to hear you'll be there Roger A...... HTSD... you still wanna come? We have to find you a car to ride in.... unless you want to bring the 'liner along... Anyone got a spare seat? NZTrev (if he's still coming) usually has a spare seat in shotgun ..... I'd give you a lift but am bringing a lady friend (I hope)

Sorry chaps - not going to be in Auckland after all this weekend. Sorry I'll miss it - have a great day!
Arrr... that be a shame guv.
Weather report for Sunday says Cloudy mainly, possible showers... so I guess it could go either way... at least it's not looking like a deluge!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE <---- me excited
Will try to make sure we're on-time, I'm imagining that we'll be running slightly ahead of schedule. Given that it's the last day of school holidays and it's a sunday, westgate shouldn't be toooo packed..... what you need is to get there early with some of that "police line" tape to fence us off an area of the carpark. If it's nicer weather, I'd imagine the malls will be less busy... malls only REALLY pack out when it's inclement.
I can't bloody wait either way

Looking good at the moment! Weather forecast for tomorrow is about the same as today possibly a little better. It's not going to be a stunning day of sunshine, but looks like the rain should hold off.... it's one of those days where we might get a spit or two, but that doesn't bother me... think it looks like we'll be on.
I'll post in here before I set off tomorrow to put a notice out whether it'll be on or not... at the moment we're looking about 90% positive... if there is any rain id doesn't look like it'll amount to much.
I look forward to seeing you all at around 10amish.... Kylie, I'll be seeing you and the west group at around 11am or just before
Tally Ho!

Well it's dawned a BEAUTIFUL Auckland day... so we are very much ON I'll see you at 10am just below the Museum in the Auckland Domain or at 11am at wetgate shopping centre... For those of you who don't know me, I'll be the bloke in the Silver Elise S1... come up and make yourself known
See y'all soon
See y'all soon
Thanks to all who came... was a fantastic day. Thanks to Kylie for helping to organise it and I was most impressed by the turnout! I think it's the sort of thing that we should do more often. The number of people prepared to just come on a "run for no reason" just as an excuse to get the cars out of the garage and have some fun is obviously enough to support having one of these every now and then. I was just impressed by the range of cars we had too.... was a nice turnout by the Lotus and TVR people but seeing your Westfield there KiwiXTR2 and also seeing that immaculate cobra along there with the XJS and alfa really is testament to the spirit of PH I feel I must say I almost wet myself when that Lotus Elite turned up... I'd seen it on show before but wasn't aware it got enthusiastic road-use... was most impressed. You got the owner's name Kylie? I'd love to catch up with that guy sometime
The couple in the Elan Sprint that came up from Hamilton (again, I forget names ) both said they had a WONDERFUL time and that it was well worth the trip up.
Was just great to see so many people having so much fun with their cars... and I had a BLAST..... of course now there's the downside, Kelly wants me to trade the Elise in on something more practical.... like an Esprit V8.... she also LOVED the Elite (there goes thoughts of saving for a house) and after a ride in Steve's blue Griff500, she wants one of them too! I can see this being a very expensive relationship
Will post some pics up tomorrow if I have time
Thanks again all

Wow so you're into a V8 soon Kylie? And did I overhear that you're off to Rarotonga to get married? I was so busy trying to drink everything in and meet everyone yesterday that I didn't get time to catch up with you and Simon properly, or Dean or Graham either... I've loads more I want to know about that XTR2 mate
Will certainly be good if you get yourself into a V8 Kylie, Dean S's beast is lovely indeed, just a shame I didn't get to keep pace with you guys at some point throughout the day... there's always next time!
Would be nice to dig out some names of the others who attended if anyone's got them.... and yes.... I'm already thinking of a "PistonHeads, NZ Early-Spring run... sometime in early september might be be prudent? What say you all ?
