OK have a friend who is putting together a track day just after New Years, understand a lot of you will be sunning yourselfs around NZ with the rest of the country, but, if you are like me and are going to work through Xmas & NY and take a break later in the year....here's a little treat you can grab before getting back into another year.......

OK who's keen ?

Words from the organiser !!!

Date -
Thursday 5th January, 2006
Rain or Shine

Time -
10.30am to 4.30pm

Format -
Strictly limited to 20 cars.
Sessions will last approximately 20 minutes with a short break in between to allow the track crossing to open.
Drivers may run in back-to-back sessions.
Depending on how the day goes, we may run some alternating sessions of 6 cars.
There may be a lunch break, depending on how everybody feels on the day.

Cost -
$150, payable with booking.

Safety -
The session will be controlled by the Circuit Manager, who is a qualifed first-aider.
Fire and recovery equipment will be present. There may be a charge for extinguisher use if you have a really bad day.
Helmets must be worn.
Overalls, or flame-retardent clothing (incl. cotton) which fully cover your arms and legs are recommended, as are fire extinguishers.

Indemnity -
An indemnity form must be completed and signed by all participants. This covers various butts in case of an accident, will be provided on the day.

Facilities -
The Jennian Homes clubrooms will be open for our use.
The loos will be open too.
The pedestrian bridge will remain closed.

Other Rules -
Pukekohe Park rules will be sent to those interested.
Of particular interest are the rules against children in the pits and alcohol, and the 95dBA noise limit.
NO DRIFTING (at least, on purpose)!
You may forward this invite on to others, but please use your judgement.
Polite track etiquette is expected - this is not a race.
Did I mention NO DRIFTING?

Hints and Tips -
Pack a lunch and plenty to drink.
If your car has a boot or you are bringing a "crew", extra petrol will save you a trip towards or into Pukekohe (depending on your preferred fuel type).
DO NOT DRIVE ON THE TRACK WITH EXTRA PETROL TINS IN THE CAR!!!
I (and I expect others) will have cameras on the day. If you would like some pictures of your baby, turn up early.

Great day, big thanx's to Richie.........
Question of the day "Whens the next one ???"

About to attack the offending CV, doesn't look bad, but will tell after a bit of surgery ?
I think a power slide onto the ripple strip at full steam shook something loose.....then a few more bumps and out she came - so to speak......?

I'll give you a report later.......bummer Mark, time for a Honda conversion, forget the 180 hp, go for the 250 hp + much more fun :-)

Dam forgot about the 23rd - I might be in Europe on business, if I here...I'm in ! hope the new track is finished ?? anyone know ?

OK I'm off to Grease-ville !

And your times from those reliable Nokia phone stop-watches........I got a 1:03 at one stage until my timer keeper relised it was the wrong red Elise going by ?? dreams are free.......

Consistant 1:09's which I pretty happy with, need better rubber, brakes & O yes the driver needs a lot of work !!

Status report - shaft popped out as thought, new shaft (wreckers $ 80) and new CV $ 1125 from ADL, + a bit of sweat, so in all not to bad......

The drive line is fully Honda so hate to think what it would be $$$$ if it was Lotus and how long I would have to wait for parts !! Bit of machining on the CV housing and she'll be back on the road in no time.

My mistake was chamfering the CV clip holder to make it easy to disassemble, but seems it's bit too easy and it self-dissaaembled on the ripple strip....!! Other than this little hick-up the car ran great, no gremlin, engine coolant max temp 94ºC & oil 99ºC so oil water cooler and rad system improments have worked perfect - in all great day thansk again Richard - whens the next one ?

Ooops in case you hadn't figured that CV is worth only $ 125 not $ 1125 doh !!

Mental note: must read post after posting......
Mark any time just give me a call, I think I have ironed out al the bug's over the past year or so....
There will be another one here soon so you can see what another Elsie/Honda owner has to say about it ?

-Would you like to do it again?

Yep

-Would you go to Taupo or Manfield instead of Pukie?

Yes, but agree with XTR needs to be weekend as she some distance away.

-Were there too many cars / too few / just right (like Goldilocks). Would you prefer to pay less for more people, or vice-versa?

Could have gotten away with a few more at Pukie, just right for the present track at Taupo maybe few more on new track, Manfield maybe a few more ? It's nice to have other cars around every now and then to add a bit of interest. But still clear enough to focus on racing lines and lap times.

-Would you pay more for a weekend event?

Sure, but would this be for W/E events or extra's as list below ? I think the $ 150 - $ 200 is a max, as you will get limited interest if its a work day + more expensive. The time of year help this also.

-Was the unstructured format OK or would you have preferred that we actually had discrete groups as planned?!

Hard to say it seemed to work OK BUT mixing the faster with slow does add an element of risk with the fast er guys watching out for the slower and visa versa, Pukie is big enough to keep out of others way, passing etc (& not holding anyone up) but maybe different story for Taupo or a tighter track ?? Maybe a mix of the two with the feedom to move between the two faster/slower groups ??

-Would you like extras, such as instructors at the track, a slalom for part of the day, or food etc?

There's usually never any shortage of advice from the more experianced guys, but if you had the likes of Jensen B showed up I'd let him take me around ;-), no on the salalom but braking point markers etc would be good, I have a few road cones which I will bring next time. Food - no unless it was hassle free for you and others, e.g. - get a comapny for a nominal fee to put on bbq for casual lunch (runs from 12:00 - 2:00 so it's not to structured, you can stop when you want).

The great thing about the days was there was none saying when you had to start - stop, go here & there, nice casual, if you wanted to follow someone you just got together. Timing would be nice but hard to do with this format mabe + more cost. I think in car timing would be a better investment.

My 10 cents worth + GST

PS - XTR - BIG thanks for the use of the trailer, nice to meet Phil K, seems like he's onto something and he has the knowledge to back it up, keep me in the loop as things develope.
