Last Sunday I removed the precats from the manifolds of my 4.0 Chimaera. As my Brother-In-Law is a Ford technician I used his tools, so went to his house to use them.

On the journey back to my place, I'm sitting at some lights and I hear some shouting. I look in the rear view and a guy in the car behind is leaning out of the window trying to get my attention. I look round and he says, "Give it a little rev for us mate."

Only to pleased to oblige with my new exhaust!

Sounds like a touch of envy there. Tell him his wife moans like a whore and not to keep pestering you for back door action.

I remember coming off the M40 in the Griff at High Wycombe and pulling straight into a traffic jam. the lid was off and I was listening to some tunes when a builder in the van next to me started asking about the car, engine etc etc. As it was obvious we'd be stuck there for ages, I turned off the engine and we chatted for a while.

When the traffic started moving, I turned the key and ... nothing. fcuk. At which point mr (build like a sh*t brickhouse) offers to give me a push start. Top result. Could you see that happening to mr Porker... maybe not!

Only ever had good comments and good naturedness towards the chimaera, even to the point when I used to park in the street at an old address, all the other cars had their door mirrors or aerials snapped off by drunken passersby, but the chimaera was always left alone.

Oi watch it.....theirs nothing wrong with being 45....I will be on my next birthday.

Anyway last night on my way home from work. A **nker in a Volvo pulls out in front of me and slows down to about 50 on a 60 limit road (why do they do this), so after a few hand signals he eventually moves over, bad mouthing me as i pass. Now normally i'd not let these idiots get to me.....but long day at work etc etc....
About ten miles further on driving through a built up area, a little *hit of about 20 who was at the side of the road with he's mates, flicks a cigarette butt at my Chimarea as i slowed down for a set of lights. Unluckily for him it bounce off the bonnet.......as i've said "long day at work" I've already been warmed up by the Volvo driver....and the red mist descended.

Now i'm not proud of this, but he deserved the right hand he got and i didn't kick him when he was down, thankfully he's mates bottled it.....but just now and then, it's so nice to let vent......
I just hope the wife dosent find out

Ahhh Tdf. I'd love to criticise but that's what I'd have done if I'd seen the scrote who flicked a cigarette butt onto our Chimaera - in the wife's company car park!

The fecking thing got stuck in one of the bonnet air vents so that it burned down slowly in it and marked the paint.

I'm averaging one bit of envy/abuse every week. The best one ever was in my series 1 350. It was Crystal Green, the roof was down. there I was at the lights waiting to go left and this loveley blonde piece in a merc rolls up and asks me for a light(as if she didn't have a cigar lighter in her car eh?). Just like the guy who threw a handful of grass into the car - I told her I never smoked. Not content she wanted to know what the car was which I though was cool.... Had I not been married who knows what might have happened. I used to think that guys who thought their cars as babe magnets were a little sad.

The big question is though guys...are Tivs babe magnets or what?

Once saw this in a 'letters' page in Viz:

"Recently I read an article which suggested that regular swearing was a sign of a limited vocabulary. However, I must disagree as I write dictionaries for a living and swear all the time, so that f@cks that theory doesn't it?"

Made me laugh.

Mainly, I get positive responses like thumbs up and "nice car mate" etc. but I have had a few like yesterday morning when some jealous old fart sprayed his windscreen about ten times in a two mile stretch just to attempt to wet me.... he then swerved when I took the outsidelane to overtake him and clapped when I finally passed. I suppose I sunk to his level when I cut the old bastard up when I saw him clapping...w*nker!!!

It can only be jealousy..... I just don't get it, I saved for years to get my car and I always loved (and still do) seeing other nice motors on the road. Typical scenario is going to France earlier this year when our (14 TVR's and Benno's Ferrari) cars were surrounded by the locals and loads of tourists, contrast that with last years promande cavalcade in Blackpool when the local dickheads gobbed at us...

sad to say it's a British " can't stand success" thing....IMO

I have had quite a few incidents with people in my Chimaera but I must say all have been good.

On the A6 coming out from Manchester with the roof down I stopped at the lights next to a white Transit van. Next thing I know the driver of said van is leaning out of the window shouting at me. I must admit I thought, 'Chr!st, what's going to happen here' so I turned the radio down and asked him what he had said. To my surprise he said "Great car, what's it's 0-60mph time then?!" I promptly told him, "About 5 seconds" and then the lights changed and we both drove off (with me proving what I had said obviously! )

I've also had schoolgirls scream (in a positive way!) at the car on several occasions. Chuckled to myself on the most recent occasion as it's not that long since I was going to the very same school (six years) and back then I would have loved that kind of attention!

There have also been a few occasions when young lads have asked me about the car when I've been parked up. I've even had three lads on my drive once checking out the car when I got home (walking). They were really friendly and one of them said, "My dad's BMW is nothing compared to this!" to which his mate replied, "Yeah, but you'd have to be a millionaire to afford one!" The last comment really made me laugh!

I've had the Greek owner of a fast food outlet come running out and knock on my window. I wound the window down expecting him to tell me I forgotten something and he just shouted, "Beautiful car, absolutely beautiful!"

The funniest thing of all though are the people who are checking the car out when I'm walking up to it and then obviously can't believe it when I get in it (because of my age). I've even had the girl at the place I get my hair cut ask me whether my dad bought it for me!!

Finally, the best thing from the point of view of having a bit of fun is the effect it has on the local female population. Obviously I know they wouldn't find me particularly attractive if I didn't have the car I do, but that doesn't stop me enjoying myself when I get the opportunity!

On the negative side, I have had a couple of people shout things as I have driven past, which may have been derogatory, but I've not heard what they said. The car has been scratched when it was parked in a car park once too.

Most reactions have been good. Couple of bits of edgy banter ... usually with pissed blokes, but they've all ended up being friendly enough. The tossers usually need a bit of anonymity what with them not having any bottle, so the abuse usually comes when you're on the move ... being cut up, tailgating, the usual crap.

From Tango2 - sybaseian's better half!
Whilst pulling up to a passport checkpoint on the Swiss/Italian border - after zooming up from Monte Carlo with the roof off the Chim 500 - I found myself alongside 2 Lambo Diablo's, - the blonde girlie driver leaned over and said ' nice car - you're a long way from home'. Praise indeed! And they got pulled and searched beyond the control...with Swiss plates too!

Further into Switzerland, before going over the Gothard pass, we pulled into the service area - and parked nose to nose with a Ferrari - there were 3 parked in a line - and so I chose the middle one to be bumper to bumper with! They'd left by the time we came out! Shame - I'd have liked to have seen their faces...!

I've not experienced any jealousy from monkey-brained wits yet. However I was approached by an oldish man at a car show a few weeks ago. At such events one is playing host and tactful ambassador, and wasn't expecting an attack.... First he pointed at one of my tyres and said the tread was a bit low. Then he asked me how fast it went, and though I dodged the question, he virtually accused me of speeding! (the wrong subject to argue with an ABD member about!) Transpired he had the very small Messerschmit 3-wheeler parked about 50 yards away and also in the Show. Should've gone over and been sarcastic back (or turned it over!), but don't suppose he'd have got the message. Still, perhaps the incident helped his inferiority complex.... as he wandered off to get his Ovaltine...
