I'm fairly sure early information stated the car would be a GT car. I have however just read all the latest blurb on the TVR website and there is no mention of a GT car.
That why I had deleted my post making ref to same
TVR themselves never mentioned a GT car, until recently they'd said nothing so it's likely the rumour mill that you got your information from. That why I had deleted my post making ref to same
When I spoke to Les I suggested that a lot of the current generation of 'Sports Cars' were too large and overweight to be hustled down a country lane he agreed and was pretty scathing about the latest 'leviathans' from Lamborghini and Ferrari. He said that they were 'Autobahn cruisers' and that wasn't what they were going to be building. That was when he made some comments that were toned down to be less direct in the piece printed. That's also when he went on the expand about the target weight and other weight issues and targets.
They're taking the weight issue very seriously as he said it was all too easy to 'bloat' if you took your eye off the target and I doubt that is something Gordon Murray will allow as it's always been one of his pet hates.
In top trumps it won't stand a chance as it doesn't have AWD or the engine weight over the rear wheels, or complex electronics and it'll be manual which is now slower than modern auto boxes. Whatever power it ends up with there will be mass produced utility transport units that will be faster between traffic lights. But one will be a mass produced, utility transport unit that no one really cares anything about and ultimately no different in most metrics to their mum's diesel version. And the other won't be.

I believe that the Sag, in keeping with pretty much every Wheeler-era TVR, was officially 1060kg. It's amazing how all of their cars officially weighed the same - almost as if they didn't actually weigh them.
My Sag was 1192kg when being corner weighted (driver included of course)V8 GRF said:

Power to weight is really only one side of this, at least when it comes to going round corners... huge power to weight ratios will give the straight line acceleration we crave and the power we need coming out of corners (with a bit of traction), but it won't beat physics Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always believed, the heavier it is, all other things being equal, the slower it'll be.... and in over 45 years of driving I've not experienced anything that tells me anything different...
For me, It'll be (relatively) easy to make New TVR quicker than the Porkah's, Fezzas, Lambo's, etc, etc... in a straight line.. that's just power to weight and gearing.. but that's what a hotrod does.. It'll be a winner for me if it can do 0-60 in around 3.5 seconds, have a top speed between 190 and 200 mph, and can handle/go round corners as well as a Noble M12 GTO 3R.. or better

TVRM is correct, LE says it's going to be a GT car that can be used on track

Ah good spot, he didn't say that to me though, he only referred to it as a sports car and said that some of the current crop where neither sports car or GT.http://www.topgear.com/car-news/insider/new-tvr-wi...
Either way it's semantics really these days as I think the line has been blurred as cars have evolved and power and suspension dynamics have improved. In the past manufacturers had to make a choice between comfort and handling now it's possible to have both.
Thinking about this, how much fun must this be for the people involved in designing a new TVR.
You don't have to mess around trying to keep everyone happy, making it a jack of all trades. You can go back to basics, and make a proper car, completely focused, knowing what tvr owners love, which is everything that's exciting about crs! Great, outrageous looks, Blummin fast, sounding amazing, light weight, rear wheel drive, with a manual gearbox.
And that's it.
No clever satnav, no electric motors, no ipod rubbish etc..
Just build a beast, that's British, will make everyone love it, from toddlers to oap's.

Yep I do. Nav and Ipod is pretty much a must for me.However I don't need my Volvo XC60's - Adaptive Cruise, Collision Assist, Lane Change Warning, Blind Spot cameras, auto lights, wipers, high beam etc, road sign cameras and electric everything!! Along with ABS, TC, Stabilty Control etc, don't need these either.
I do find it funny I have on one side of the garage a car with just about every piece of safety kit avaliable stuffed in it. And next to it the complete opposite!!

I'd expect the new TVR to remain quite small though but lets say its 10% bigger than a cerb which was 1140 kg and 350 bhp ( 4.2) so 1140 x 1.1 = 1254 kg so the same as a GT86 but with 450 bhp
Friend owns a Cerbera and it was nearly 1300 kg when we took them to a weigh bridge, My Sag was just under 1150 kg, both had about half a tank of fuel.I'd expect the new TVR to remain quite small though but lets say its 10% bigger than a cerb which was 1140 kg and 350 bhp ( 4.2) so 1140 x 1.1 = 1254 kg so the same as a GT86 but with 450 bhp
Mine was 4 corner weighed a few years ago at a 750 motorclub meeting on equipment used by one of the race teams and came out close to the above with 3/4 tank of fuel.

A mate of mine has recently leased a Golf R, very very impressive piece of kit.... Now who'd have thought a Golf with a cheap chip would be quicker than a TVR

Not quicker - more may be as fast as... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=141...
That's not to say the new Golf, civic, A45 AMG aren't impressive in a straight line. doesn't the RenaultSport Megane with 275bhp hold the Nurburg ring record for FWD cars at just under 8 mins?

Seems his is not just the only heavy Cerbera
