Why did you chose a TVR? ....ladies?
Discussion
I'm curious with so many TVR owners in one place...what made you chose a TVR? how did you discover it? when you first sat in it and found yourself pushed back into the seat with Gs what went through your mind? Are there any lady owners out there?
My story's easy...I ride a performance bike which got me interested in performance cars. I wanted something with power, soft top and less than 20k used.
The TT's had a pillarbox view and were largely import LHD models sat on forecourts. MGF and Z3 are mostly toys. Elise was darn ugly. MX5's are for hairdressers. Vauxhall roadster has power but looks cold and unwelcoming inside...
The only thing I'd say against a TVR (if I dare) is the gearbox transmission makes it very difficult for the lovely lady in my life to be a cosy passenger - still it avoids the temptations a car like this would no doubt conjour up without the bolster in between us

Love affair began with a Griffith that a friend owned when I was just a nipper - fell in love with the noise and the design and finally got one 6 years later....after 3 years though I needed more power and was then having an affair with a Cerbera so I dumped the Griff (felt a little guilty) and jumped in with the Cerbera. Griff was fun with great poise but the Cerbera had the refinement and the body if you know what I mean.Never get rid of the Cerb ever as nothing else has the buzz like a TVR on song and in full flow....

Yes, and I'm another. What made me choose it? That unforgettable sound, the power, and the drop dead gorgeous looks.
The MGF (I had one)/Z3/MX5 just are not in the same class at all. The Elise is a good car, but of a very different type, and doesn't have that glorious roaring grunt either.

This isn't Steve but his wife(Karen). My love affair with the marque started when, as a student
at Birmingham Uni, I would make my pilgrimage to the NEC Motor Show. I can remember passing a stand with what can only be described as the "Batmobile" in metallic pink (yes Steve it might have been magenta)
. This was the speed 12 and that was it!
. They were also showing a video of a number of cars hurtling down a runway. The only thing that made me look away from the speed 12 was Clarkson's voice (commentating on the video) screaming out about the speed of the Cerbera
. It was thrashing everything in site (and still does).
Since that day it was an ambition to own one of these magical cars. Steve and I hired a Griff 500 for our honeymoon and were sorry to give it back. We hatched a 5 year plan to own one. Eighteen months later (with a move down South)we now have a camel yellow Chimaera 500
.
The sound of the V8 is breathtaking, the top-down experience exhilarating and she always puts a smile on my face, even in the depths of Winter. With a car this colour you can only smile!. The handbrake is hard work
lifting a few weights solved that issue.
I wouldn't change her for anything. She's a star.
Does anyone know the name of the colour of the original speed 12?. It would settle a long running arguement.
See you on the road

My first TVR (4.0l Chimaera) came out of a number of life events - 1) divorce 2) 40th. birthday 3) Payrise 4) Realising that converting my loan for my then Corrado, into a loan for a TVR, wouldn't cost a lot more.
I habe also loved TVR's since I was a student, and was sooooo jealous when a friend of mine got a 350i. It took 10 years of work, and a failed marriage, to make me say, "sod it, I'm getting one!" Now I'm on my second, and cannot ever see myself not owning a TVR. It's become part of my psyche, and I can see now why it takes not 1 but 3 letters to turn "miles" into "smiles" - TVR!!

Like most it was the sound. The fact that they are all british, brutal, and comparively cheap (cf. Porsche 911 Turbo and Ferrari 360 etc) was a bonus. Also TVR is typically a man's car (not a hairdressers car like MX5 and Z3). As Jeremy Clarkson said about the Cerbera "This car would be a male, and not a washboard stomached male, but an 18 stone bouncer who has a fondness for biting the heads off rottweilers " - need I say more!
If you want to go fast and have alot of noise TVR has always been the only choice - other cars are just limp wristed things you go through till you finally realise - but if you are a Speed Freak you would not be even considering anything else - who care's if you can't get cosy with the other half - You are driving not shagg'in - one thing at a time...

Wanted to buy a fun car for the nice days. After looking into several Porker Carrera Targas, I was fed up with rust around rear window and the fact that they are also far from perfect...
An Evante made my wife scream.
The Elise is too expensive for a 3rd car (for me at least)
The first S we saw, made it all clear then. This has to be the baby!!
Each time I drive the car, I have a great time.
We will travel to Corsica in May - after this journey I can say more about it...

Yes, and I'm another of them! I have had my 4.0HC P-reg Chimaera for almost a year now. I used to date a guy who had a Chim. The first time I heard that delicious roar, I fell in love. The relationship didn't last, and it was the need for retail therapy after the break up that started Project Chimaera. One year on, and the excitement is still there!
The roar, the burble, the freedom, the power, track days......'nuff said !!!
