Internally protecting sills
Discussion
My E34 BMW is going to need new outer sills at the very least.
The bit that's always confused me about sill repairs is when you are welding the new outer on, you are effectively boxing the area in- so how do you deal with the uncoated areas inside the sill which were stripped in prep for welding or where the coating has been burned off by the welder? Can these areas be painted or is it literally a case of filling the thing with cavity wax and hoping for the best?

Treat all the cleaned back areas with weld through zinc primer, that's about all you can do, after that as you say it some form of cavity wax, there are plenty out there but i tend to use waxiol either heated to aid flow or with some added diesel, i prefer heated as it cools and thickens and doesn't drip for days after like if you thin it with diesel.
