I've also switched to the Adidas SL20s and did my first run in them yesterday - feel good I think!

While I was lacing them I decided to try Lydiard ladder lacing which does seem to have helped: https://www.podiumrunner.com/training/injuries-tha...

Only did 15 minutes but minimal discomfort so will try a longer run this afternoon and see how we go. Thanks to everyone for the advice, I have a feeling that the SL20s will help me towards my 21-minute 5k goal once I get on top of the sore foot!

Hows everyone getting on?

More easy miles for me as the snow is now ice! Managed to keep my miles up over 50 for the week, happy with that considering I could have stayed in the warm this week amd not felt bad!!

Not good really Josh, cold weather has knocked the enthusiasm out of me! Only done 8 miles this week.

Well, my injury seems to have cleared up, fingers crossed. I didn't feel any pain or discomfort yesterday (to be honest, there's been no PAIN for a good number of days, but I still felt something wasn't quite right until 2 days ago) and so today I did 40mins on the bike, modest effort (not easy but certainly not hard either) and I have had no ill-effects, whereas after my ride 8 days ago everything stiffened up and I was definitely worse.

Plan is tomorrow to run just 1/2 mile, maybe 1 mile max, just to see if I get any issues. I don't want to go for a 4-5 mile run only to find I can't walk or whatever when I'm done. I plan to do 50-60mins on the bike straight after that and then, if that goes well, 2 mile run Monday, 4 miles after that with some strides (probably Wednesday) and if that goes well, then I'll "get back to it", although I realise after 3+ weeks of no running and only easy cycling very sporadically it will take a good 4+ weeks to get back to where I was, I suspect.

Still, it's promising.

Half planned tomorrow, which will take me to 75km for the week. Bloody freezing the morning, but I returned to find that my London Marathon rejection top had been delivered, so should be toasty tomorrow!

Usual weird week for me. Niggles in different bits of my feet and legs that just moved around, felt really hard to get going on any run, and quite often felt like I was dying smile But the data says I’m getting fitter and faster, so can’t really complain.

In theory got a 4 hour run tomorrow, but all the routes I’d normally do aren’t just flooded they’re frozen over too. Don’t fancy that long on the roads so I might end up doing 4 x 1 hour across the day.

Treated myself to a Theragun knock-off / percussion massager gun from Amazon.. arrived yesterday and seems to be pretty good so far. It’s easy to see where costs have been reduced (majority of attachments are plastic rather than hardened foam, for example, lack of arm adjustability, and probably battery life) but the key bits of RPM and amplitude at least match the real deal. For 70quid I think it was worth the experiment. Is this one .. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086MHGJHK/ref...

Tough going this week - did my usual trail run Tues and Weds, just under 11km, reverse direction the 2nd day (64 min and 66min - was 58 mins in the summer). Pretty snowy, even more so the 2nd day.

Thurs and Fri ran 10km/2 laps of local golf course - very undulating and some really deep snow in places. Ave 6min per km (my 10km PB is just under 40:00). Seriously cold both days.

Steady 10km today on mainly compacted snow. Easiest run of the week and fastest pace by some margin! Again bitterly cold.

Keo - at least you got out and did something rather than writing the week off!

Ross - good work and yournare far more controlled than I could ever be, I'd probably be injured again far quicker than you will be though! How did your run go today?

Smn - how did the half go? Still plenty of ice around here so no quick stuff for me on my long run this am.

Big and clever- 4 hours!!! Mental. I've seen those guns before let us know if it makes a difference to how you feel/run. Good value compared to the other ones I've seen advertised.

CSL - decent distance this week then! I love the golf courses being closed, the dog loves charging around, I keep him off the greens obviously!

52.4 miles for me this week and I have ran everyday in Feb so far. Good to see everyone has braved the conditions and cracked on.

Well - not great. I went out, only 0.25 miles. Whilst I didn't have PAIN as such, I could feel it wasn't quite right. It feels more like muscular tightness rather than pain. Having done that short run, it has not aggravated it.

On the flip side, before I REALLY hurt it, it felt like muscular tightness/DOMS, but today was not as bad as what it was back then. So some pluses and a negative.

I had planned on doing a 1 hour ride on the bike but clearly that's not a sensible idea. It may well just be residual muscle tightness and the actual injury has gone, but it is just not worth it. On the plus side as well, initially I was having significant rib tenderness (I mean, literally minimal pressure would be pretty painful) and that has completely gone.

So yes, it is definitely getting there, but I'm not out of the woods yet. Plan is to continue with the every-other-day glute and calf strength work I've been doing and maybe some quad work too, tomorrow a REALLY gentle 20mins on the indoor trainer tomorrow just to keep the legs ticking over a little bit, rest day Tuesday, possibly another 1-2 days complete rest or another very gentle indoor ride and then perhaps try another short run next Friday or something.

Very frustrating but I must remain positive because it is, without a doubt, better than it was. Just frustrating because I was in seriously good cycling shape and running was coming along very nicely. Hey ho. I've had worse winklaugh

Ice has virtually all gone, so no problems with staying upright - just the wind to contend with! Did an out and back with a running buddy and it was up and into the wind on the way out and so a bit quicker on the way back. Total of 74k this week which is my highest for a few months now, planning the same again next week then drop back to 50k for a recovery week before trying to move the distance up a bit again.

My biggest problem has been staying free of injuries, but other than niggles it's now been a year since I last had something that's stopped me from running, which I'm pretty pleased with.

Unplanned rest day for me today, had planned a 10 miler so just the 20 miles for the week. Got a sore spot just above my ankle on the side which just feels tight when running. Fortunately i've got the physio booked for Tuesday so hopefully that will help.

That’s good miles joshcowin. What kind of dog do you have? We’ve got a 8 month old cocker - am waiting another few months before trying to take him running with me, but evening runs on the golf course may feature even when it reopens. Had never even thought of running on it until Covid happened. Saw 3 deer there on Thursday (often see them on my trail runs) - one of them tagged along for a bit!

62.7km for the week for me - 6 days out of 7. 1257m elevation. Today was my quickest of the week by far but also the easiest.

I've never done a parkrun! I live on a park, it doesn't have an event, I'm not sure it would be my thing anyway!

I want to run with my 9 month old Lab, but her recall isn't very good, she'll spot a rabbit and she'll be gone eek

Ringo is insanely good, country lanes off lead just trots next to me, car approaches he stops and sits. Around town he stops at every road before I tell him to cross. Very fortunate, he loves being close to me so know he won't bolt.

Pics of your lab please?!

Ringo's a beaut! Very lucky (or more likely a better trainer than me) that he doesn't bugger off...

This is Ruby what feels like yesterday:

Finally seeing the back of the snow here, and the lighter nights are starting to appear - keeping up the 100/100 motivation has been tough - the wife said last night she feels like a parent telling a child to do homework - "when are you going for a run?". I do feel like running in the snow has helped my strength, but my calf muscles are ruined.

In a good/bad product review, my TaoTronics muscle gun has started making funny noises and losing power. On the plus side, their customer service is top notch and a new one is on the way.

I'm loving the Guide 13's - they give me just enough support without having the clompy special shoe feeling that the Omni's give. Still not tried them much over 10km, but the signs are good.

Keen to get into dog running as well, ours, Lola, is only 4 months old. Itching to get her going longer distances, but restraining ourselves while her wee bones develop - she can still beat me in a flat out sprint though.

Shameless dog photo (easier in the snow for contrast - most of my photos of her just look like a black slug with a collar on):
