Just a little moan biggrin

I've applied for a few jobs recently. Now I like to think I'm a smart(ish) boy and my experience/ability is probably 90%+ what these companies want. So it's gaulling when you don't even get as far as an interview and (if) you get a response saying something non-descript like "your experience doesn't match the criteria"

Fair enough they can hire who they like. It does seem that they are looking for the 100% candidate and they won't give a guy a chance. But of course they then re-advertise it 4-6 weeks later and I feel like resubmitting my application, but I suspect that will just annoy them. Even if I send them my new/improved CV you'd expect them to pick up on the name.

Suggestions for getting a better foot in the door?

And I won't get started on "must have previous experience" and then you see the rubbish some companies hire that don't even appear to be able to get dressed in the morning much less have relevant experience! Or they don't realise the oppurtunity they've been given! Many years ago I REALLY wanted the local BMW technician apprenticeship. Didn't even get as far as an interview. (Despite very good grades) The guy they ultimately employed did the job for 18 months then fked it off to go and work with his mate in a Pizza Hut. Such a waste! GRRR madlaugh

I can only suggest you post your CV for a critique. These days if there are loads of equally qualified applicants then it might come down to the employer discarding your CV based on the most trivial reasons

I've seen similar things too. Get rejected, find out who the successful candidate was, and be amazed that they could have chosen such a pratt. I think that that's the thing about customers (for that's what prospective employers are), they can make buying decisions that seem absolutely bizarre

I would say re-apply, show them you are still keen to do business, it could even be that they didn't get back in touch thinking you would have taken a job elsewhere.

Oh, and watch out in case the employer is somebody who is a bit fussy about spelling- the word you were looking for is 'galling'.
