facilities manager and public sector work
Discussion
Hi,
I have looked at a few roles lately under the Facilities management title. How does one move into this kind of role? Im in engineering at the moment and cover all building facilities in my current role
Also public sector this seems inposible to get into without prior public sector experince.

If you're applying for public sector jobs and the advert has got the "phone so and so for an informal chat" then do. It's like an interview before the interview, and lets you get a lot in that you might not on one of the useless standard application forms.
Ultimately the person recruiting wants someone that knows their beans, so if you think you do then phone up and tell them.
NHS might have some quirks that lots of other estates don't have, like the nasty stuff they sling down the lab drains and disposing of biomedical waste, but councils and central govt are a bit more "normal".
Most of the civil service stuff is just offices really.
Even if you're not successful at first, then you'll pick up useful snippets from the recruiters to point you in the right direction for where your current gaps are.

Thanks, That's good advice about the "phone for informal chat" I will take that onboard.Ultimately the person recruiting wants someone that knows their beans, so if you think you do then phone up and tell them.
