Not the best video but my word does the V10 have a mental top end on it!

https://youtu.be/nlPOC6YHZ7g

Glad I had the chance to have one in my life.

There's only going to be one winner there!

E60 M5s are sensational when things get going, very few cars get the better of them on highways.

Wasn't it funny how the M4 chaps thought they'd killed the beast, only to see it waltz off into the distance?

Brilliant this.

I have an F10, fking monster! But I do miss the E60 M5.

I had the drive of my life in my beloved E60 from

Scotland to England overnight.

I understood that night the true joy of a V10 M5.

There really is nothing like them.

Very impressive.

In some ways it is a shame its all at the top end, would like more at the bottom end, but still, very impressive and I'd love one on my driveway!

Love the V10 love.

I toyed with getting one. It's just the depressing 'don't want to drive it' mpg, the risk of ruinous bills and that the serious fireworks (as shown in vids above) that don't happen until well above 100mph which makes it practically pointless. And if you want all that, might as well get a Lambo.

But..don't get me wrong, the mighty V10 in the E60 is a million times more interesting than the F10's block, no matter how much faster the newer car is.

It's a screaming V10 in a 5 series saloon biggrin

For me I'll miss the sound on my M6 more than anything else. The way it used to sound in tunnels in 2nd and 3rd gear at full beans was magical.

The V10 has lots to give below 100 mph. That's what the gearbox is for: rev it hard and keep changing up.

It is, of course, also amazing above 100 mph. On the Autobahn, almost nothing can touch it (until fuel runs low after 300 km if you ar really pushing it frown).

My E61 M5 did a full tank - it nearly cut out on the approach to Ed's at the Nurburgring in 6 laps - that is bang on 80 miles... Mind you, we did put the fear of God in several of the slower GT3s on the approach to Schwedenkreuz and also up Kesselschen. Fun times indeed.

I'm sure of seen a video of an E92 M3 pull away from an M4 at 100+mph also?? They don't seem to run out of puff...

Will try and find the vid later...

I was fortunate to have had two and now have an F10. I really don't think we will ever see the likes again, the F10 is without a doubt an amazing machine but doesn't have that glorious V10.

Much maligned a bit like the CSL at launch, but scratch under the surface and they are phenomenal cars once understood.

INMHO a future classic.

biggrin A standard non PP C63 is only limited to 65% throttle, so no wonder it will loose to a modded (or even stock) M5.

Unrestricted, they are very similar as they should be, both around 500bhp.

Great cars.

Also whys it faster than a gallardo. I thought even the old gallardo was 510 bhp and less weight than the E60??

Yep looking it up even the earliest gallardo has an equivalent power and getting on for 500kg less weight!!!

With the gallardos traction that shouldn't have been much of a contest. What am I missing?

9.2 seconds according to fastestlaps.com

However once rolling its about shifting at the right time at the right revs.

Over 4500rpm the way the S85 accelerates is breathtaking and throws you back in your seat.

Thanks, well I'm surprised it's doing what it's doing, as the 0-100 of an M4 is 8.6 secs??

It's the incredible accelerative nature of the E60 from say 80-150 that is stunning....where other cars are giving up the ghost, it's just getting into its stride.....a bit like a tall, gangly sprinter against a short, stocky one!
