Watch the end. They stick plates on the top to make it look the same, but if you can see the escapement (easier on the 8500 than the smaller caliber) you'll be able to tell if it's a CoAxial escapement.
Another tell is that fakes are seldom (ever?) freesprung so usually have a regulator.

Easier when you have the real thing to compare against. Standalone I don't think I'd be able to tell, certainly not in a pub or whatever if someone was wearing it. Another tell is that fakes are seldom (ever?) freesprung so usually have a regulator.
Frightening how good a lot of the modern fakes are.
