Down near Edinburgh for a couple days and went in to the city for tea last night. Decided to nip past the swatch shop 15 minutes before they closed and managed to grab a Moon. Very chuffed with it, will likely get a different strap at some point but even the oem one is nice, if a little naff.

Was in Covent Garden today and picked up a Mercury, happy with it. Chatting to the guy on the door it's the same faces buying the latest releases. They had a few on stock but not the Neptune which was my other choice. Nice touch was that my Nightflight's battery has just run out, I mentioned it to the chiap at the till and he gave me a battery.

Hopefully the hype is dying down now and I can pick up a black Snoopy soon.

The hype does seem to be much less now. My son and I have been waiting to get the Mission to the Moon for ages, tried many, many shops just couldn't get one, however, went to the Swatch shop and purchased the Mission to the Moon without any issues, the Mission to Mercury had been purchased from a Swatch pop up previously .

I was in Covent Garden last weekend and they had everything except two and the special editions. The two they didn’t have (Mercury and Pluto) were due in the following day and they reckoned there would be plenty on that order if I came back at lunchtime.

After waiting 2 years for a Mercury and finally seeing them I decided to save my money and not to go back. I’ll instead put it in the fund to save up for a real speedmaster.

They had everything except the blue / Neptune at Battersea Power Station, last week ('standard' ones, didn't ask about the LEs).

After waiting since they came out to try one; the wallet stayed in the pocket having had Mercury in hand.

I do think they look cool and may yet go back for one but... I don't see when I would wear it and it does just feel a bit 'plastic' (shop assistant told me off for saying that).

Posted this in the wrist thread yesterday...

I’ve had this sat in the cupboard for almost a year I think-kept meaning to sell it thought I’d give it a whirl instead.

The strap is surprisingly comfortable actually-I think I’d like an Antarctic Ocean Fifty Fathoms to try as well next.
I've got it on again today, I actually love it for a change and I might start looking for a couple of others-I love the new red one for instance. One thing I noticed at the DN track day earlier this summer was loads of folk were wearing them-target market being middle aged men?!

I've worn Rolex exclusively for nearly 25 years and was very tempted to buy one of the white ceramic Top Gun IWCs last summer but these will do me now. I'm converted and as they can be bought and traded fairly cheaply I don't see the problem with them.

Got to handle my mates one of these the other day. Looks ok but felt very cheap and nasty. Saved me some ££!

I picked up one, just to see if the fuss was justified.

I felt much the same as you and sold it on.

Swatch make far better watches for far less money.

Meadowhall had a pop up shop at the weekend, don’t know how long it’s there, but they seemed to have most in stock including the new ones and the snoopy, and were even giving it quite a hard sell.

Agreed, and the marketing was genius, a page out of Rolex's book. I wonder how many less they would have sold overall if they had enough stock available from the start.

It's a cheap plastic watch they could have churned out in the millions, yet they (the nice colours anyway) have been difficult to get hold of for two years.

And as you say, they look and feel pretty nasty in the flesh.

I like the look of mine (Moon) and the concept, but the quality is ste. The face of mine is scratched to buggery after 8 months.

Anyone silly enough to be concerned about the water resistance of a moonswatch need not worry. 4 days at Siam Park in tenerife proved they are more than capable of getting a bit wet. Including me finding out the weight restrictions are there for a good reason.

I feared this might be the case when I bought mine last year, so I got a pre-cut protective film off eBay. They're made out of the same film as automotive PPF and only cost a few quid for a set of four. Genuinely can't tell it's been applied and my Jupiter still looks brand new despite wearing it 3-4 times a week.

Best of all if it ever does get scratched I can swap the film for another.

The saleswoman at Meadowhall was quite humorous in her 'upsell' tactics, she spotted I was wearing a Mission to Mars but on a rubber strap, so agrees in the straps being a bit 'crappy' then tries to upsell to the new mission on earth series with the line that they apparently have a better quality crystal so do not scratch as easily, no mention of that on the Swatch website. scratchchin

Amusingly the real moonwatch would scratch a tonne too!

If you think it's a faff fair enough, but personally I think spending 30 seconds sticking a bit of film onto a watch to stop the plastic face scratching is time well spent.
