I've got some bottles of wine and champagne at home from the late 60s and early 70s.

Chateau Neuf Du Pape
Nuits St George
Beaune
Moet et Chandon
Bollinger Vintage

Anyone know if they are worth anything?

I know that much will depend upon the label on the wines. They were bottled for what was the Home Brewery Company in Daybrook in Nottingham but can't remember much else about them as I sit here at my computer at work.

Errm....I didn't say that they were bottled IN Nottingham, I said they were bottled for Home Brewery Company in Nottingham, this being where the Home Brewery Company was located before being bought by Scottish and Newcastle and then closed down.

Sadly yes, so if anything, they are more likely to be 'curiosity' value rather than a find for a connoisseur. I did try one of the NSGs about 4 years ago.....bloody lovely it was after we let it breathe for about 45 minutes; very very smooth. That said, I'm no Oz Clarke!

Hello Bebs

OK, I'm back at home now. Just had a look at the bottles and this is the info from the labels on the bottles:

Chateau Neuf du Pape X 3 from 1971. Label says Domaine de la Chartreuse a Bedarrides Vaucluse. Shipped and Bottled by Killingley and Co.

Beaune X 1 from 1970. Label says Maison M.Doudet-Naudin. Again, shipped and bottled by Killingley and Co.

Nuits St George X 1 from 1967. Label says Pierre Ponnelle; Killingley and Co

Nuits St George X 1 from 1969. Label says Caves Syndicales de Bourgogne; Bottled by Buswell and Co. (Drank the other one of these about 4 years ago and it was bloody marvellous yum )

Bollinger Vintage X 2 from 1966

Moet et Chandon Dry Imperial X 3 from 1966. (I'm assuming this is non-vintage because it doesn't say anything about vintage on the label)

There's also a bottle of Beaujolais Superieur. There's not much information on that though and it's definitely knackered because it's leaking through the cork.

If they're not worth anything it's no big deal. I might as well keep them and try a bottle now and again for some special occasion or other. If any of them are half as good as the NSG we tried, it'll be a night to look forward to. The champers is likely to be well past its best now though.

Funnily enough its the Champagne Bollinger 66 that has any value. This obviously depends on it being it good condition and how its been stored but in good nick its worth £100+ btl.
Sadly all the other have no or very little value due to them being negociant or English bottled and not Chateau/Domaine bottled. In addition they are 'Generic' wines rather than wines from any one particular vinyeard and on top of that, they really are getting way past their best now and should be drunk. They will nto benefit from further age and I personally would probably have drunk them some years ago when they were still 'fresh' and had some fruit left. I get what you're saying about the NSG being smooth but this probably has more to do with the fruit having faded now more than anything else.
I'd drink them over the next few months if I were you.

Cheers and enjoy!

I would have a punt on ebay with the 1966 Moet with a bit of spin about it being World Cup champers.

(this is a serious suggestion by the way).

Thanks for this. There is something on some of the labels about 'Domain Chateau Neuf Du Pape Controlle' whatever that means. I'll take a phot of the labels and post it on here if your interested. I'm not worried either way; they didn't cost me anything as they were in my father's house when we cleared it out after he passed away. He would have had them from 'new' as he was a former Home Brewery landlord.

As Dickymint suggested, I might just put them on fleabay and see what they make.
Regards

Happy to look at the label but as I say - they will have very little value. It is not the AGE of a wine that determines the value, rather it is the quality of the wine from day one.

a 100 year old beaujolais is worth nothing but a 5 year old Chateau Petrus can be worth thousands a bottle.

In car terms, keep a Skoda for 40 years and its worth 0 - keep a limited edition mota for a while and chances are it goes up in value.

Ebay is worth a punt - not sure if you're allowed to sell alcohol on there though..

Cheers

just drink them. They are worth very little, but some of them may still be drinkable.
