can you be anymore specific? what class/championship? what racewear? the blue book should include the relevant racewear requirements.

I will be racing in the Future Classics Series, part of the Classic Sports Car Club in a Toyota MR2.

Having read the blue book I understand that a MSA/FIA Helmet is required and a FIA Race suit, both of which are being purchased this weekend.

Gloves and Shoes/boots and Nomex underwear are advised - but are they compulsory?

Gloves, boots and Nomex shreddies aren't compulsory but I would recommend at least buying some karting gloves/boots (for feel even if not fireproof)!

nomex gloves and boots should be an essential purchase.

Please ignore any advice about using karting gear.

I dont know anybody who races who does not wear nomex gloves, balaclava and boots as a minimum, bear in mind in a tin top you will need your hands and feet to get out of the car should there be an accident...Karting stuff will burn very quickly, you dont want to think "at least i saved some cash" when you are looking at the heat scars on your hands and feet....

Pablo, I actually agree but what he asked was "what is legal"... Personally I wouldn't dream of venturing on track without a Nomex balaclava/gloves/boots/long sleeved top/long johns, but horses for courses!

check the Blue book, theres a few scrutes in your area actually (names contact details and their addresses are listed).
with regards to kit purchase, some stuff thats legal for this year ie currently, may not be for next. BS kite marked helmets with the blue 'A' sticker are currently legal, but go out end of the year, but the BS red label 'A/FR' (fire retardant liner) will continue. also certain FIA certificate suits are legal until end of year (mine needs replacing thenfrown) so make sure youre not flogged older stock/spec.

most of the big retailers will know the current and future regs inside out anyway.

Nomex fire retardant gear may make you sweat like a pig with all those layers (go for a 3 layer suit, gloves, balaclava and undies imho) but will stop you smelling like a KFC bargain bucket should the car catch light biggrin
