The accents grate a little....and that's coming from a north midlander with a horrible whiney accent....had to rewind at 1 point to catch what Paddy said.
Some childish stuff, some boring stuff, some funny stuff... FF and his old escort quip got me laughing.
Not bad overall....looks like Paddy is running the show a la Clarkson

Can anyone tell me what the yellow car shown in look-ahead was?
Looked like a cross between a LaFerrari and a McLaren Senna, but think it's perhaps something a little more obscure.

It's a LaFerrari I believe.
🤣🤣🤣 That wasn't the actual car shown.
Thanks to those that replied with Dallara Stradale. 👍🏻

The thing is that regional accents, even dialects in the extreme cases, are part of what makes this country. They add a cultural richness that simply doesn’t exist in many other countries and it is over such a short distance even with neighbouring towns/cities being apart.

The BBC has always employed individuals with regional accents for their shows, there is nothing new here. It is an organisation that exists to serve the whole of the UK and to also protect and promote culture.

In contrast, I hated the way that Clarkson, who was the recipient of a high quality education and family background, in the last decade had begun to speak like a toddler with his jeuvenile inflection on words such a ‘stupid’.

With regards to the current show it is Harris who offends me with his posture. Again the recipient of a good education and yet he is unable to sit up straight and has even begun to walk like an old lady.

All in last nights show was excellent. It’s the classic BBC pairing of public school with working class, North with South and between the two groups there is always amusing banter and piss taking that flows naturally.

None of them are studio presenters and that shows but is likely to improve but it is outside where you see the benefit of three blokes who clearly need far less scripting than anyone who has ever hosted TG and as an intelligent and educated individual I always found the need for scripting a bit low brow.

The show was good and the bits that were a little rough round the edges are all bits that will improve with time.

The fact that they will have to include subtitles on the worldwide syndication is an added bit of amusement.
It makes me laugh when Clarkson plays on his Doncaster roots. I grew up in the same village as him, a good 20+ years later mind, however was not the recipient of a Repton education.

It's hardly a story of being dragged up by his bootstraps that he sometimes likes to portray.

He brags about doing very little at school or atleast to being thick academically. We have loads of those types of guys and girls in Doncaster, the difference being the alumni from comprehensive schools end up on building sites or in call centres.

don't get why much of the focus of this conversation is on regional accents. Have you never been out of your own county?

Well I have to say, I thought that was a very good episode of Top Gear. It seemed to be about people enjoying cars, which I think is a very good thing for a motoring show.

I am also so pleased that I didn't need to fast forward through the awful celebrity bit either. I very much hope this is a trend to continue.

Still not sure why you think a former cricketer and a failed comedian are ideal TG presenters.

I have nothing against Northerners, just these two.
McGuiness can be humorous.

I'm not sure why you think he's a "failed comedian".

He's done very well for himself.
I love people that say stuff like that.

One day I hope to be such an embarrassing failure. With a mere 7 million net worth.

I’m no fan of his but you can’t really call anyone who makes that much a failure.
Or in car terms he's gone from a ropey Mk2 Escort to Bentleys and Ferraris (McGuiness has owned both).

He's such a failure ! biggrin
He’s had some decent cars ( IMO at least )

So being considerably richer than yow makes him ideal TG Presenter material. Went very well with Chris Evans.

When did I say he was a failure.

I just don't like him or have ever found him funny.

Check out Max and Paddy.

I really enjoyed it, I thought the chemistry seemed quite natural with less forced/scripted parts than we have seen in previous series. Some the "Lads, Lads, Lads" stuff started to grate a little towards the end but didn't detract from an enjoyable hours TV, a lot better than I expected it to be

Well, a quick google of Mr McGuiness says he's actually from Farnworth - so that puts him even closer still to Manchester.

I reckon he spent his youth smashed out of his tree at The Hacienda and has a huge stash of Happy Mondays, Stone Roses and Oasis CDs.

Lancashire my arse biggrin
I grew up about as far out as Farnworth on the opposite side of the city and always considered myself a Lancashire lad.
As far out as Farnworth on the opposite side of Manchester is heading towards Cheshire

You may consider yourself a Lancashire lad but I suspect you may need to take a phrase book with you if you ever venture into the county of Lancashire. Ah'reet cocker ...

I almost didn't bother with it. Paddy McGuiness and Freddy Flintoff? Really?

Turns out three people genuinely having a laugh actually makes for quite good TV though.
So its not scripted at all then, just all 100% "off the cuff". they dont go thru any scenarios at all, where they can make a joke etc??
Of course most of it's scripted. What I meant was that the three of them either seem to be actually enjoying doing it or are good enough actors that they can fake it convincingly. This hasn't really been the case with a lot of the recent Top Gear or GT. It felt less forced, most of the time anyway.

I think failed comedian is a fair analysis considering McGuiness hasn't done much comedy since the true talent in the partnership (Kay) ditched him.

Advertising pastries and taking over from Gino D'Acampo as team captain on Celebrity Juice isn't exactly stand-up, is it?

I worry Freddie Flintoff is going to get annoying. He's a bit like a mate who goes round punching people in the nuts and pulling peoples shorts down. Ok on a trip to Ibiza, gets a bit tiring when it's happening at funeral

I was expecting it to be dreadful but I actually really enjoyed it.

I think they should have replaced Harris though and gone for an entirely new lineup. PM and FF seem to get on very well and riff off one another but CH is like a third wheel. I like him but it feels like he’s being picked on by the bigger personalities.

Kind of ironic considering Harris is the only proper motoring journalist and link to what came before, no?

paddy is quite a funny guy. He's never tried to be a stand-up comedian as far as I am aware. He is funny enough unscripted to be good on TG. Matt le Blanc was OK at times but only vaguely funny when scripted, and not really the funniest guy in real life - a bit like many american comic actors and comedians i guess.

Fortunately they realised that car journos who aren't really funny and don't have much charisma don't really have a place on the programme... however i thought they learned that in the 90s when TG was properly rebooted....
