no it isn't.
Oh yes it is.
As car based entertainment it is.
The only significant difference is the presenting team and their 'chemistry'
If you like it because of them and would watch them whatever they presented then that's fine.
But lets not pretend the content so far is in any way 'better' than the content of Evans' TG. I'd argue to date, the actual car testing, chat and variety is significantly worse.

Not really loving it after 4 episodes..

Content, challenges, and the silly bits do not carry this show.
It hasn't moved on from TG, if anything it has got worse.

We lambasted Evans for his shouting and stupid antics, but the show still had a TG feel.
Now we have an equally silly set of presenters acting like 10 year olds on GT. We still enjoy the test bits, the car reviews cinematography, but the replacement bits which are copyrighted to BBC : SIRPC and Stig just fail miserably.

BBC could quite easily rival Amazon with the next series of TG! Just by getting the right mix of presenters.
Amazon has not blown the BBC away with GT, do you think they have added millions more Prime members since the first episode.. judging by the reviews on forums and most websites... I doubt it.

Have been pretty underwhelmed so far but yesterday's episode was particularly meh...
I was surprised when it got the end, I thought to myself, is that it?? 10 minutes to review (in no depth whatsoever) the Porsche and BMW, and the rest of the show was just filled with crap. The challenge had some funny bits but overall didn't inspire me or teach me anything, not did I get to see some interesting scenery. And what was the point of the TT bit???
I'm worried things won't improve either as I suspect the whole season has already been filmed.
As above

Can you imagine the animal rights nutters if they'd picked up a live one for 5 seconds of filming and carefully placed him back in his habitat with no suffering or injury caused to the hedgehog and a bit of extra food? They'd lose their absolute st!

Saying that I do kind of want a pet hedgehog, they're an animal that just amuses me.

Also I didn't know until they indirectly mentioned that May has a Speciale and I did some googling last night that Ferrari made one extra car for him after he missed the order slots! And it's orange with gold wheels, like his shirts the man has a quality taste in his cars.

Darn right the "license fee" is an outmoded vehicle. Being forced to pay it if you have the cheek to watch a live broadcast made by a competitor is absurd . Time the BBc were made to adopt a voluntary subscription model, might make them produce material that people at large want, not what they seem to think they want. Reason I let my license, lapse, I just did'nt watch BBC output. I only watch streamed services now.
I see what you are getting at but going down voluntary subscription would then produce programs that won the most subscribers.

Public service broadcasting is about giving something for most people. Even the nutters like me who like Miranda and Mrs Brown, I mean nutters like my friend.

The license fee currently pays for an infrastructure service, like any other government service. Just stick it on some other tax so we all pay. Plenty of other things we have to all pay for whether we use it or not.

I would hate to see the BBC go down a subscription service, it would be worse than it is now and probably not survive.

As for TGT, I like the subscription model for that on Amazon.

ITV has a public service remit as well, we are not forced to finance them by law if we wish to view a live broadcast . Fact is, the BBC is a media company, like many many others. It is by no means an essential service , like many such which our taxes fund. The fact of facing state sanction if having the cheek of watching a TV programme is beyond absurd, incredibly so.

Anyhow, enough of the matter, the money I save on not funding the BBC , pays for my Prime and occasional Now TV subs. Job jobbed.

A few whingers on PH are not going to get this stopped. Its global, and it fills the gap the BBC have left wide open from TGs former global audience.
Look, we get it.

Anyone that disagrees that Grand Tour is Bafta winning new, intelligent and amazing TV is a "whinger" Best you get on IMDB.net and post another 10/10 review to help nono

But the fact is that PH are the target audience. And if we don't like it, and even the anti car, anti Clarkson nuts at Guardian don't like it (and I agree with their assessment of the series so far) then it's not long for this world. And that would be a shame, as it has the massive potential to be awesome!

Look at the DriveTribe trailer.

Looks better than Grand Tour!

I'm sure it came to no harm.

But, if it has just been a normal run of the mill small furry type thing. It would have felt a damn site more natural than a clearly planted one and their faux surprise.

Watched it in 15 mins - learnt little about the GT3RS and the BMW GTS. Someone needs their @rse kicked for making that carnival float dross 66% of the programme.

Look at the comments in this thread. We all seem to want the same thing.

And I daresay more people on PH watch TG or TGT than the general public. Who actually will stop watching it if it doesn't entertain them. Those viewers wont even give it a second chance unlike the posters here

Now THAT looks amazing!

I wonder how the various regional TG (US, Australia etc) have reacted to the latest BBC version and how those audiences have taken to GT?

Why would it?

This is what they do, it is all they know how to do. These are not 20 somethings developing themselvest, they are at their peak. Most of the team came over for TopGear, including the Script Editor.

The only way it could be different would be to bring in a new team of writers rather then letting them do what they enjoy, at which point May would probably get bored and leave.

The hedge bit was poor, otherwise was a decent show. It is just entertainment.

OK then.

Who is the target audience for TGT?
Are there many of them?

And lastly, are they actually enjoying the show in the same way they enjoyed old CHM TG?

I'm beginning to think it's people that watch crap sit coms on BBC or ITV are the target audience. The idea that a show can be well scripted, intelligent and funny seems alien to the target audience laugh

I'm someone who enjoyed Top Gear and has a subscription to Amazon Prime partly so that I can watch TGT. Unfortunately though the question of whether TGT is actually any good has become a kind of dog whistle for some on here, where your answer determines which side you are on in their great online crusade against lefties and the BBC.

FWIW I think TGT has been disappointing so far and at this rate I'm not likely to renew my subscription.

True, but it doesn't stop a lot of people questioning where the hell the £4.5 million spent on each episode has actually gone
I imagine CHM are all on close to a million an episode each.
