I'm reading the books and watching the TV series, I'm just starting A Feast for Crows. Can somebody who has read all the books and watched the TV series confirm that the story is quite messed about with on the TV series?
As said it's just a bit of streamlining. Plus now it seems, 'extras'. I expected (and predicted it in this thread) that extra bits of the story would have to be shown to allow all the bits of the narrative to catch-up.The deviation has gotten a bit bigger this episode but in my mind it's still OK (and I am a Purist at heart) because it doesn't fiddle with the main story and amps up the tension while allowing great actors to do good stuff.
The only thing that seems might knock some for six is that ending, which I'm sure has sent the theories people nuts...I have started doing it.
Also, loved the confirmation of the QoT worked with LF. An alliance obviously forged way back. And if folk remember it was also similar to the offer LF made to Ned. It was the smart move for him.
Also, the reveal (OK not much of a reveal) that LF is quite possibly the most deadly character in the show. He wants to be number one.
Ah ok, thanks for setting my mind at rest. I can't talk about it at all to my wife as she is a couple of books behind me and keeps coming out with all these theories when watching the TV series. I have to just keep quiet (no change there then), but it is difficult when something unexpected happens and I want to shout WTF?
I do find the books pace is very up and down, and sometimes a bit of a grind, but I helps reading them to better understand the context of why people behave in certain ways and the customs.

It's real. When the characters are real the actions are real. One thing GRR does well. Things don't happen to push the narrative, things happen because the characters want them to happen. Which is why it is unpredictable and you get WTF! moments. It's like the Sopranos.GRR is also a student of history so his customs are designed to create internal logic.

Depending on how far back you look into their recent history, you could point at a number of items said to have "started it" but...Wasn't LF behind the death of Jon Arryn?.. making him very much the deadliest character in the show when you consider what has transpired/how many people have died since.
Im not sure LF could be accused of Jon Arryns death. He may have done it but I think he would have been working for the Lannisters at that point.
I agree he is the sneakiest character in it but not necessarily the most deadly. In that respect I would think it would be someone like The Hound or several other candidates in terms of deadliness.

Well, Petyr implied Tyrion pushed Bran out of the tower, and was definitely responsible for Jon Arryn's death, even if he didn't actually pour the poison down his throat. Lysa did, to stop him from sending their son away as a ward...
... and there's more to come from LF.

Good luck! If found that completely energy sapping. Just finished it and started ADWD. 3 chapters in and it is already better than the whole of AFFC put together! The first 3 books took me 6 weeks, currently a year into the 4th and only about 10 chapters in. I just can't bear it pick it up.
They wont let S5 of the tv series drop at all.

Tyrion pushed Bran out the window? Who said that? Im very confused now. Does Baelish think Tyrion tried to kill Bran? ... and there's more to come from LF.

And I accept the argument about manipulative but again I still think he isnt the most dangerous. In that respect both Tywin and Olenna have him beaten, both of whom seem to know their limits. Baelish will come unstuck. You have already seen an example of his arrogance causing him problems with the whole Cersei and "what is power" thing. Baelish is a minor schemer and at some point he will be squished like a bug. Hopefully by Sansa
Petyr **implied** to Catelyn that it was Tyrion. They took the dagger off the assassin that came for Bran, when he was unconscious in bed after his fall, which Petyr said used to be his but which was won by Tyrion in a bet.
He's manipulative in the extreme, and seems to lay plans far into the future. Clever guy.

The show has already shown littlefingers view of chaos as a ladder, and varys saying he'd burn the world to be king of the ashes. Littlefinger appears to thrive in conflict and by stating it was Tyrion figured he'd make a Stark / Lannister war more likely - for which he would (and did) gain power from.
Remember at this point Jamie is with the king in kings landing and is pretty much untouchable, but Tyrion is somewhere in the North well within Cat's reach. Especially when you consider he grew up with Cat and loved her for so long.

The bloke who chopped of Jamie's hand,I'm confused, has it said in the TV series why he's gone to the wall. I didn't expect to see him there, maybe I've missed something.
Didn't you see him in the last episode speaking to Roose Bolton, when he returned to the Dreadfort and Ramsay and Reek (Theon) were there? Reek told Bolton about Bran and Rickon still being alive and they had probably gone north to the wall and Jon Snow.benny 61 said:

He has been sent by Roose Bolton to kill John Snow. It was mentioned in S04 EP3 (last weeks episode).Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
