The Cabin in the Woods

Although it did mainly play out like a generic horror film, which is one of my least favorite genres as they're boring and predictable using the same tired formula that's been done to death... wink credit is most definitely due for the original twist they put on the tale and I particularly enjoyed the gore when the lifts all went ding simultaneously.

6.8/10
It certainly gets very interesting when the change occurs and they get in the lift.
Did you know the twist before viewing?

Spectre. It was pretty good, not great but better than the last Bond. Some tweaks could have moved it into great status, as it was, the best thing about the film was the new Star Wars trailer. biggrin

FilthThe only downside was that it made me go and hunt out old episodes of Harry Enfield and Chums, which wasn't as good as I remember it being.
Not watched them for a while, but they were better than the latter work, such as Harry and PAul I feel.

Slow paced, but grim and brutal western, has some good dialogue. 6/10
I watched a western last week I'd not even heard of, Appaloosa. Really rather good. Ed Harris and Aragorn. With Jeremy Irons as the baddie. Not outstanding, but the performances and interesting story kept me watching.

Last night watched the new Fantastic Four. I havent watched the old one, and know nothing about the characters, so was going in fresh. Was surprised it was only a 90 mins movie, and at 60 mins in they are still firmly in the "origin-story/scene setting" mode. Then in the last few minutes of the film the (all-powerful) baddie is introduced, allowed to start his nefarious scheme, and despatched by our heroes. Talk about rushed... Pretty unknown actors, very little humour, hard to particularly like the heroes. Just a bit of a dull film.
Apparently the studio stepped in and helped hack the film to pieces, hence the fairly (so I've head, I've not seen it) disjointed film.

My 10yo son picked-apart the science behind the tech as soon as he went sub-atomic which shows how little thought goes into continuity but overall we thought it was really good. The little girls is *so* like my own daughter too (different accent) which we all thought was fun.
What did he say?

Heads up lockout about to start on C4

Pretty decent film under rated, take out brain watch the action type thing.

Basically Guy Pearce plays snake plisken might as well have called it escape from space or something.
fking brilliant. Guy is one of my fave actors, but I was gonna give it a miss as it sounded generic and ste. But Pearce saved it, he was, as normal, fking ace. And I can forgive the hideous cgi at the start and the overplayed baddies, just for all the dialogue twixt Pearce and the blonde. biggrin

The American. Nice lil modern spy thriller. Nice lil type of it's genre, not mind blowing, it lags a little in the middle, but overall a nice experience. I think modern Bond films could learn a little from it.

Difficult to think of any SNL types who I rate after the MIke Myers era. Tina Fey is very good, and I don't know is AMy Shuer is SNL.
The 40 Year OLd Virgin crew, they make comedies I like, I see them as the analogy to the Ackroyd/Chase/Murray et al crew of the 80s.

Warm Bodies. Watched it because it's zombie and because of the favourable mention above.
I had ignored it because from what I gather, Hoult is a prick. But it was actually really really good and brought something new to the zombie genre while also being rather funny/charming and executed decently.

Chronicles of Narnia: The lion, the witch and the Wardrobe.

My eldest wasn't feeling very well, so dug this out for a cold Sunday afternoon. Better than I remembered it. I think when it was released it was held up in comparison to Lord of the rings. Obviously it didn't get the same level of acclaim. Viewed in isolation as a more family oriented fantasy and it works better. Some of the violence and themes might not be suitable for very young children, but it has a broad universal appeal. My daughter loved it. Ignore the Christian resurrection analogy if you can.

7/10
It's tough to do! And fairly impossible in the second, where it just seems to be Aslan acting like a and playing headgames with children.

Mouse hunt - 8/10 slapstick comedy, a wet Sunday film.
Loved that one.
Yeah, that is a modern classic...I expected follow-ups, in the vein of Laurel and Hardy, and yet it was a one off? confused

Spanish film about a TV presenter and her crew who are shadowing a firefighting team, they get called out to a disturbance and find some bizarre happenings - don't want to say too much for fear of spoilers.

Shot trough the TV crew's lens in a 'Blair Witch' style, I thought it was a really good modern horror film that's something s bit different to most of the genre.

8/10
I've seen this and the American remake 'Quarantine'. Both good films, not sure which I prefer actually.
I've seen Rec 2, which I thought was wk. I wanna watch Quarantine though.

Ahhh fal and bren porn.

Seen it too many times awesome film.
Ripe for a remake I reckon.
Still love the original.
But it'd have to be in the same vein, good actors in the parts, not action stars like Statham.
Less story on Flynn, and more time for stuff in Africa.

It's also one of the few films where the protagonist dies/fails. That ultimately doesn't sit well with audiences. biggrin

The Eiger Sanction.....I had forgotten that CLint and George sit on top of that crazy rock, gave me vertigo just looking at it...

You couldn't get a cast like that these days. Plus they would fk it up. PC bks. They'd have to have super ninja women who can kick men's arses etc etc.
Hmm, difficult to think of British grandees who could do it...Hopkins is way too old.
No-one in their 70s. The three officers and the RSM should all be grandees.

Officers

Ralph Fiennes - Burton
Colin Firth - Rafer
Hugh Grant - Flynn
Gary Oldman - RSM?
Ken Branagh

rest
Dom West
Andrew Lincoln
Daniel Craig
Idris Elba
Chewetel Ejiofor
Chris Bale
Clive Owen
Daimian Lewis
Sean Bean - sgt
Sean Pertwee
Gerad Butler
