Indeed Google Harry S Plinkett for reviews of all the films plus if you dig about there are episode 1 dvd commentaries too. Absolutely spot on and very funny.
Can't recommend the Plinkett reviews enough if you have any interest in Star Wars. They absolutely nail the mistakes and poor judgement Lucas made with the prequels....kind of cathartic if you're still angry about them in a Tim Bisley style!

Incidentally, i used to work with a guy who had been a production assistant on Eps 2 and 3. His job was basically getting drunk with Hayden Christiansen and keeping him out of bother on and off set.

He summed up the productions as "George Lucas sitting on his arse drinking coffee, not even really paying attention to the takes, constantly coming up with painfully inept 'ideas' at a moment's notice and generally not listening to any of the professionals trying to gently tell him how to make the movie better....and all with a lead actor who was literally the worst possible choice." rage

Great that Lucas has gone, although greatness of the new trilogy is far from assured.

Watched the red letter day review last night, really nailed the issues and they are funny.

The most telling bit is the extras where you see them all watching the rough cut of the film and they all know its st, people were just terrified to say no to Lucas incase they were fired.

Such a shame as if he actually had folk telling him things weren't right, how about this and all agreed to tell him, it might have actually made sense.

Or you know, Georges script was given the once over by a competent professional writer, George has decent plots, just needs less yes men.

Which is consistent with the Plinkett review, showing George Lucas sitting on his arse drinking coffee, and doing lots of lazy two camera act-react shots.

As for green screen acting, none brings it home more than Obi-Wan fighting General Grievous; four lightsabers whirling in front of his nose and he just stands there like a lemon (no disrespect to Euan MacGreggor; he probably wasn't told). Compare that to Pacific Rim (which I know has been much-maligned over on its own thread) and Guillermo del Toro went to great lengths to build real sets with pneumatic actuators and all sorts, precisely so that the actors would have believable reactions.

I think the weakness of the actors in the three new ones was a major reason why they sucked.
Ewan is capable with good dialogue, but he is not a Gunniess clearly and was generally hopeless and wooden in every scene. Sam L is OK as a junkie gangster, but he was utterly hopeless and lost at sea as a zen like master. The two who played Vader were utter st.

The good ones? Neeson and McDiarmid. Both excellent.

Thing is I don't think it's fair to blame the actors. Most of them have proven they can act, I blame Lucas

The Red Letter Media video explains it very easily I think.

Describe 2 characters to someone who has never seen a Star Wars film, one of which is from the original films and one from the prequels, without saying what their name is, what they are and what they do in the film, so character descriptions.

Han Solo. Me, lovable rogue, rough but has a heart of gold. Will always be there in the end to save the day

then

Qui-Gon Jinn. Me.....................er....................................he's a bit boring, very.....um.......very po faced.........um............. silly hair cut.

biggrin

Oh and if Jedi can run very fast (escaping from the Droids) why can't they run very fast when they need to get through a moving power coupling, when Obi has is trying to get to Qui-gon and Darth Maul.

Run Obi run......aaah too late what a shame........... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detail...

I wouldn't blame the capable ones per se (but still the st ones of course. hehe ), but great actors can work beyond lame dialogue and a stty director.....Star Wars..Guinness, Cushing, Earl Jones and Ford.
Not to mention all the English stalwarts in tiny parts.

He could be any number of roles though. He could even be R2 as Kenny Baker is getting close to 80 now

Was Baker even involved in the prequels? I thought they were all CGI or remote control R2D2s in that.
