I'm definitely getting vibes that the twins mum isn't real and is either a computer program or a hologram. Definite 'uncanny valley' vibes whenever she speaks to her and when the first twin did in Ep 1.
I'd agree, definitely not real. That's a given. The backstory which Dahj and Soji believe to be their lives isn't real, so why would their mum be?
I noticed one thing watching the scenes where Hugh took Soji to visit Ramdha. We get repeated clips of the various Romulans and the madness/torment they endure. The scene keeps flashing to each of them and of how they are 'broken'.
Except for one person in the room (as far as I can tell). This is a female Romulan, sitting alone. When Hugh and Soji walk in they stop, exchange a line or two, and then the camera cuts to just the two of them, with this mystery Romulan woman sitting alone behind Hugh's left shoulder. Hugh delivers one line; "there she is."
He's literally speaking of Ramdha, who we've not seen yet. But this one mystery Romulan woman over his shoulder is never seen again in the following scene(s).
Could be something, could be nothing. Replay it, and pause it as he completes that line.

Yes me too - it reminds me of that commander woman on the Tet in Oblivion.

I was really hoping that rather than just introduce some random ship that Picard would find a way to "do a Kirk" and steal the mothballed Enterprise D or E or whatever one survived at the end of Nemesis.

Indeed - not only that, but from the first episode it seems clear that whatever it is can “activate” them. I assume that the person behind them is really Bruce Maddox, or that the AI/program (if it’s that) was written by Bruce.

Unless Bruce Maddox is dead and in his place is a newly constructed Data. Or a rebuilt Lore

I'm all caught up now. It's getting a lot better, I enjoyed episode 3. I agree that the episodes are far to short, I watched 2 and 3 together and they passed all too quickly.

oh yeah - 400+ years in the future and they still where plastic rayban's

anyhow perhaps my geekdom is wrong but i think the vulcan sun was closer to vulcan (hence it being hot) and much brighter than earths - so they would not need sunglasses.

of course they might have been there because it actually wasnt the commodore and it was to disguise her eyebrows/eyes from being SYNTH?
which could also mean synths can change exterior appearance?

Loving it but it does need to speed up a little. 3 episodes in and we've just found a ship and left.

Can someone explain to me who the dudes are that live with Picard ? Are these his careers ? I dont get who and why they are with him ?

The slowness - yeah it was basically said somewhere that the 1st 3 eps were a slow burn but the rest of the season is where things start to happen.

The carers - yup. Romulans he rescued (presumably) that felt they owed him a debt I guess.

They were undoubtedly involved with Picard in the Romulan rescue operation in my opinion. And it's obvious from dialog and skillsets they were connected with intelligence operations in the past, and have military training.
Also remember the final line from the Romulan commander to Picard in the Nemesis movie was along the lines of "you've earned new friends here in the Romulan empire Captain". (Not verbatim, but close enough...)

I'm actually enjoying the slow burn build up, think it's setting the tone nicely.

My wife and I both commented the episodes seem too short which is a sign we are enjoying it as we are thirsty for more.

I do have a couple of questions though, how can Rios the pilot afford a warp capable ship which looks pretty advanced? Surely they don't just build\give ships to just anyone, especially someone with a sketchy Starfleet history. Did he buy it? If so how, they don't have money and even if they did, how did Rios get enough to buy a ship.

Secondly how is Picard paying for his services? Again no money in 24th Century? They mention a few times about him not being cheap? How does Picard have money?

That whole find a pilot who just so happens to own a very slick, warp capable ship and is willing to boldly go off into a dangerous adventure at the drop of a hat is a bit "convenient"

Might feel slow because you are used to 1hr (or less) Star Trek episode stories rather than a 5hr (7 episode) series story?

That's a good point. Many TNG episodes commented on how money isnt required anymore, the drive to build wealth has gone, replaced with the drive to better yourself. So how exactly is old JLP paying for that ship ? :-)

Also, let's get 7of9 in the mix, she's rather plesant on the eye !!! :-)

I was shocked to learn Jeri Ryan who plays 7 of 9 is 51 now! From the trailers she still looks good but that was a bit of a blow tbh.

I think of it more like this...

They say the goal of man is no longer the accumulation of wealth and while they mention that no one needs money its clear some form of currency is required, Trading with the Ferengi for example requires Latinum. I would imagine there would be a credits based system still required but I can also imagine it not really relating to what we would know as money.

We know little from outside the Federation/races we know in the Trek verse, I can very much imagine there being places one could be less reputable and earn a "living"

Of course, I could be completely wrong but as an example look at Into Darkness with the smuggler ship they seized.
