Frack me. I knew it was bad in A+E but I'm still shocked. So whats the answer?

For those who've not seen it, it shows the massive cost and impact on services of routine alcohol abuse/current attitudes of society in general. For example the drunk driver who put his mate in intensive care and joked about it while waiting in reception.

Jesus.

I surprised this is not a "pxxs boiler" thread title!

I am sure the program was somewhat editted to show a certain "type" of "customer" but flipping 'eck, there were some real scummers on it.

The drunk driving "lads" all laughing about it in reception about "100mph" and "12 pints" the driver seemed genuninely quite proud of his near killing his "mate". While the mate is in a coma for 2 days!

Then, they are seen together joking about the compo he will be getting in the pub 4 months later.....
WTF is wrong with these people? What hope is there with these sorts being the "futire" of our nation! ?

Then the "19 yr old mother of 2, Danielle" who stepped in front of a cab, pxxed up at 5.30am! 5 bloody 30am.......as a mother with 2 kids........! Got trapped under the car with "her leg behind her neck".....I suspect this is not the first time this girl had been in this position.

4 weeks later and she is still in hospital (having been given an od of painkiller and died for 11 mins, so no doubt someone has been sacked and she will get a shed load of compo for her toruble too) and she is asked whether it was worht the night out..... "Oh yeah, only cost me 20 quid and a free taxi...well a free lift here......" the doc is biting his lip and saying "well, yes free to you...."!

And all these idiots with the self inflicted injuries just seem to get fixed up, at thousands of pounds costs to the rest of us taxpayers, and survive, plus get some compo as it is not their fault of course........then the poor lad who is kicked half to death and brought in off the street by cops dies....

Like I say, I am sure it was editted to show these pondlife for the disrepectful wastes of skin they are, but when are we going to "man up!" in this country and throw these drunk tossers back out onto the streets where they belong and start looking after people who end up in A and E through more genuine reasons? And before anyone says define a genuine reason, well being 16 and having had 12 pints so you cannot stand up and are crapping yourself, whilst all your "caring mates" shout, swear, cry and tell the cameras what a talented footballer / mother to the three illegitimate kids the "victim" is, is a good starting point as NON GENUINE I'd suggest!

Courts need to start locking some of these idiots away instead of letting them use alcohol and drugs as an acceptable excuse to miuttigate their pathetic actions.

I am sure if this topic was under the old P and P format it wouold be better responded to, also! !

Indeed! This is just the sort of thread/programme that would have all the old gang's piss boiling over!!

Instead, TWO topics on this show and only 15 posts in total.

A good example of the failings of this new system.

It should be treated the same way as "dutch courage" in a criminal matter IMHO. Effectively not a defence and therefore they should pay some of the costs towards fixing their injuries.

I forgot this was on (I seen the trailer last week) so i've just finished watching it on Ch4 OD.

A sad endightment on the state of the country. The nurses, doctors etc who have to put up this pond life are worth every penny they are paid. She made a good point - how can it be fixed? Society needs to change, and how do you go about doing that!

I was surprised at the amount of drunk women, and underage women too.

Get rid of the massive drain on resurouces that is the NHS, lower taxes, and introduce private only medi-care.

No job, no income, no hope, no contributions = no medical care.
No, I don't think that's the answer - especially as I've recently been made redundant and might fit into that category wink

The NHS is something we can be proud of. The cause of the issues highlighted last night rests elsewhere.

Are you talking about the state of our good nation's spelling?! biggrin

Shocking programme. It shows completely that night-time is the realm of teh drunk people, and a dangerous time for our youngsters. If I had teenage kids I would be very concerned about them being out. Teh bit where the drunk girl was slagging off the doctors for disrespecting her and telling her to got and sit down really did it for me.

I was flicking between this and the hugely posh lady killing and eating horses in Siberia. Gruesome viewing.

I typed that word in & back spaced it out again about 3 times before I settled on the above. I would normally open MS Word & check it but I couldn't be arsed, I typed the above post while sitting on the loo this morning!

If you assualt a Doc or nurse then they should be entitled to withdraw all help and assistance.

The same goes with anyone who is caught and convicted of say throwing stones at an ambulanceman when they are trying to help someone else. Go on a list, don't get any treatment.

That's the only way they will learn.

From watching that I'm quite sure our country is going to the dogs, the lack of respect these idiots had was astounding, I have no idea how the staff had the motivation to go to work.

I was talking to my sister about the overdosing that occurred, she works in a large hospital and has done some time in A&E and said overdoses are quite common yikes

Having gone through the tariff for NHS procedures today - these people should all be shot to save the NHS some cash. What a waste of oxygen!

Inspired! I love it.

Agree that there is something that needs to be done. Tried working in A&E for a while myself. In one of the hospitals featured, which is why I watched this programme open mouthed.

What I really want to know is how that dose of ketamine nearly killed her?!
If a 100mg vial was opened instead of a 50mg vial, the dose still could not have exceeded the dose required for general anaesthesia.

Maximum dose is around 4 (or 5) mg per kg. She was at least 60kg. Which gives us 240-350mg to play with. How did it do that to her? I am aware of the SEs of OD of ketamine and arrythmia is one, so I appreciate that the condition was as a result of OD, but then how did they manage to give her more than 350mg?

It was certainly eye-opening, if incredibly disheartening.

That drunk driver and his mate were absolutely shocking. If I was the father of the lad in hospital, they'd be guaranteed a place in the next bed for laughing like that. There was simply no remorse. Equally sickening was the comment about the driver being £6k down that night and the victim being £20k up. fking idiots.
