The cost of this idea will be staggering.

Tories keep on that Labour will waste money yet here we go.

Just think

Staffing levels in the services are at rock bottom

Where do the extra staff live?

Its barmy.

Guy has lost the plot.
There is an alternative of some voluntary work once a month, which I imagine most would pick in the unlikely event of the Tories being elected. It is a gimmick nothing more.
I agree.

Proves he has limited understanding of normal life.

If it comes to pass i have no doubt the better off will find ways to avoid it.

My father joined the army in 1951 rather than be conscripted.

Rationale was he could choose what branch to join.

Joined the Royal Signals. Worked his way up the ranks getting commisioned in 1974 dying in service in 1989.

It must be clear by now that someone has placed a series of massive bets on how much the Conservatives lose the election by.
Very good

At our early morning coffee morning Mrs Bleckingham-Jones has said she is now definitely 100% going to vote conservative.
I spoke to her whilst trying to take the foil top of those little UHT milk cartons that they put out next to the coffee pots, very fiddly.
A staunch Conservative through and through she was concerned they had gone soft on crime and soft on the causes of crime .To be fair to her she voiced these concerns well over a decade ago. Her view was that "hug a hoodie just led to endorsing thuggery"

She was wavering on lending her vote to Reform UK but they don't have a candidate in place. Her second choice was the Lib Dems but there is only so many times she can hear the words "proportional representation" before she gets a migraine.
She is 68 and thinks it's a wonderful idea because she sees the youth of today as lazy, bone idle, unpatriotic and spend too much time on their smart phones.

She does feel that 90% of the problems in society today are because of the attitudes of teenagers and it's hard to argue with that when you see them on street corners tapping away furiously on their smart phones. The fact that they fib to the bus drivers and ask for a child ticket is another area of concern.

Only just clocked that John Redwood has also joined the deserters ranks. Shame - another ‘Portillo moment’ gone.

It really does feel like Sunak has gone full 'Brewster's Millions'.

If only we had a 'None of the above' on the ballot paper then it would be nailed on.

I'm waiting for him to break out the blazer with 'Don't vote for me' emblazoned across the back.

Labour HQ must be looking on in utter bemusement. The massive bet on the Conservatives losing doesn't sound too far fetched.

I’m 100% convinced that he’s trying to bury the Tory party for the next ten years.

Even calling the election was suicide, but talking of national service? They’re absolutely fked.

Sounds very conspiracy tin foil hat but this can’t be all a genuine attempt to win.

Along with Rwanda who actually is asking for this and who is rubber stamping it and thinking it's a vote winning strategy?

It really is baffling.

Anyoen who’s ever had involvement in organising or working with school work experience students knows how costly, unpredictable and unproductive this will be. Total stupidity.

Next up, mandatory Duke of Edinburgh participation.

Mandatory choosing, but yes who would have predicted it.

According to the polls there's little chance of it coming to pass. If it ever did, heaven help the regulars, they don't deserve it.

Sounds like a plan Rishi Sunak has plucked out of the sky to appeal to the traditional over 60's Tory voters who will think it's a wonderful idea because they blame the youth of today for everything and it won't affect them or their own children and they feel their grandchildren are going off the rails.

As a parent in my early 40's with two children it would affect it has pretty much sealed my vote to Labour
Over 80's maybe. I am well over 60 and to me this sounds deranged.

Middle 70s here. When my wife told me I thought it one of her little jokes. Knowing how stupid this lot was, I checked online. Still had trouble believing it. She's recorded KKwatang on a news programme for me. I think I'll enjoy his justification more than the Monaco GP.

Bizarre.

When his next policy session? I'm now expecting a reintroduction of the Home Guard, curfews and a blackout.
