The law of unintended consequences seems to have struck the Scottish Govt coffers. The brilliant idea for their new high value property tax seems to have back fired - who'd have thunk it. The new LBTT which replaces the UK wide stamp duty adds considerably to the amount being paid on expensive houses north of the border. Due to the increased tax rates the revenue received by the Scots Govt has reduced from £8,600,000 to £982,000 in the quarter Jan-March. Expect to see other decreases in income where the SNP mob try to tax the rich.

Edited to add that this was in today's Times - obviously an article designed to undermine the Numpties in Holyrood.

Is that true?
LBTT wasn't in force in the first quarter - it came into force in April.
The Scottish Gubbermint figures from their website are:
"A total of 11,020 notifiable land and building transactions were reported in June 2015. £32,200,000 of payments have been received in respect of these transactions.
A total of 8,660 notifiable land and building transactions were reported in May 2015. £23,900,000 of payments have been received in respect of these transactions.
A total of 7,520 notifiable land and building transactions were reported in April 2015. £17,700,000 of payments have been received in respect of these transactions."
He's talking about houses over the maximum threshold cost wise, not the entirety of the transactions regardless of the property purchase price, I believe.

I'm sorry I took the information from a paper copy of yesterday's Times - it is now doing sterling service wrapping fish and chips.

Why does virtually every poster on this thread celebrate any negative item they can find about Scotland and the SNP, and ignore, pick holes or mock any positive items which are posted?

This used to be a good thread.

Worth avoiding nowadays - just a hate thread.

Mainly because the SNP paint themselves as a party of change and fairness when they are simply the same as any other political party.

Nah, she was hacked. So they could leak her details in a much larger hack. An anti SNP conspiracy.

Strange they'd bother with a nonentity new MP in a minor political party in a diddy wee country like Scotland and not at the very least go after the one we've all heard of.

Or it could be she's a lying slut.

I have nothing against sluts you understand, but I can't abide moralistic, two faced politicians. Especially SNP ones.

I can sympathise with the 'This used to be a good thread' piece but...

...I'm pretty sure most people love/like Scotland, particularly as it is. I include myself in that and I don't think the negative items are directed at Scotland per-se.

I also don't think I'd be too far off the mark in saying that 'virtually every poster on this thread' despises the SNP, (myself included, even though I did once vote for them), and the persistent undertones of 'independence' for which they're pretty much solely responsible for.

Frankly, I'd do anything do discredit the SNP now because in my opinion, they're an absolute farce. For someone that previously was never particularly politically motivated they make me sick to the pit of my stomach because, (for many reasons, including but not limited to the referendum), I don't think they have anywhere near a proper idea of how to run a country and base their entire manifesto on negativity themselves.

You reap what you sow! There is very little positive that can be said about a party that has willfully gone back on political pledges not to interfere with matters that do not concern them, and acted in ways diametrically the opposite of what they claim to stand for.

Even the writers of Coronation Street are fed up with them.

The thread has become one-sided because it has become impossible to defend the indefensible. I only hope that it is indicative of a wider spread of realisation that (to quote an earlier post) the SNP are as venal as every other party.

Now that the euphoria over the phoney GE victory has died down, the SNP's true colours are very much starting to show.

On a lighter note...

confused

Care to say something meaningful?

Face it though - the SNP's winning tactic was to sully the reputation of the opposition - "Red Tories", "Westmonster" and all that. It's becoming very apparent that SNP supporters overplayed their hand dishing out the dirt, and they don't like it when it predictably heaps back on them.

You reap what you sow! Indeed.

Surely you are not surprised that the SNP are widely despised for their hate filled selfish 'me me me' independence shambles? I can't wait to see them fall on their smug ignorant arses.

what will this lead to? Perhaps the SNP can set up a special team to ensure the party rules are adhered to and any dissenters are dealt with. They could call them 'the Scotland Squad', shortened to 'SS' or similar. smile

We joke, but commentating on the behaviour of a bunch of bigoted rampant nationalists is never going to be all sweetness and light is it?

Are you really surprised the hate spewed by the SNP is coming back at them? Really?

The Tale of Norrie the Nationalist

Norrie read his book about Nationalism, a book that told him things about Scotland that no other books told him. It was called "Wings over Scotland" and it was the biggest load of pish ever, but Norrie believed it. The people that wrote it were far more intelligent than the Unionists who had destroyed Norrie's dream of double dole and freedom. The Unionist had voted NO to the double dole that had been promised by Nationalists like Sturgeon and Salmond and the radical independencers doon the High Street. "Vote for independence and you will get double dole" they had said to Norrie, swaying him into voting for the first time ever. Norrie had entered the the YES shop and been won over by the things written on the walls in big letters. "Double dole, double Buckfast, No Tax, All for free if you Vote Yes"....... Norrie had gone to bed that night dreaming of double Buckfast and double haggis pies, all at the expense of the tax payer who would have to pay more to pay for the SNP's promises of double dole. The SNP had promised double dole, but the Unionists had said No and Norrie's dream was over. Norrie had been furious and had rushed out in his back garden and shouted "Bastirts", raised his Saltire high in the air and shouted "Bastiiiirttss" again as loud as he could, but most of them were at work and had not heard Norrie.

I can't take the credit for it. The author is unknown, but I found the story here.

Yep, you're right there.

I find it amazing that so many new regular posters have appeared on this thread AFTER the referendum and are posting drivel day after day.

Many of the decent debaters and posters have moved on or were reported and banned - and for reasons that I absolutely do not agree with.
