How stupid do you have to be, to make a joke of that in front of the world's press?
It's not stupidity it is a rock-solid belief in your own impunity.

His entire life he has done whatever he wants with absolutely ZERO consequences.
And as president that effect has only heightened.

When you are above the law, can do no wrong and are lauded for behaving like a complete tool, why on earth would you stop?
This.

The problem Trump is struggling to face is that now he's President, he's actually accountable and the people opposing him are equally as powerful. Trump's never had to deal with someone on equal terms, he's always used his families wealth to ensure that the inequality favours him in every relationship he has be it business, marital or otherwise.

Now he's president, he's struggling to grasp that he cant do that anymore.

Russian state media are reporting that Putin invited Trump to Moscow next year to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II and attend a lavish military parade. The Kremlin said Trump “responded very positively.”

WH official tries to walk this back saying: “The President believes it’s important to commemorate the Allied troops who lost their lives in WWII, as he said in June during the D-Day events in the UK and Normandy, but he has not confirmed participation.”

Trump also bonded with Putin over a scorn for journalists.

“Get rid of them. Fake news is a great term, isn't it? You don’t have this problem in Russia, but we do.”
“We also have,” Putin answered, in English. “It’s the same.”
They shared a chuckle.

At least in the US journalists don't end up dead, well unless you get Saudi to kill your journalists

Trump doesn’t care and as Mueller bottled his findings he has got away with the many offences he has committed, sadly the democrats are pretty weak and Trump carries on as before tarnishing the reputation of America across the world.

Last week Mnuchin was saying the China deal was 90% done, the implication that we'd have a done deal at the G20... Looks at the above list of individuals... I think I can hear Xi laughing from here.

How China Really Sees the Trade War: https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/china/2019...

The above article is a reasonable assessment of the situation. China will lay out a deal for Trump to save face before the 2020 elections that fills none of America's core demands, Trump will then be told to take it or leave it.

Lighthizer is one of the more strategically minded of the American team and sees this as a first stage in the trade war of decoupling their economies, leaving later administrations free to pursue a more in depth trade war. This seems more feasible than the wibble being spouted by Trump and Mnuchin.

American demands:
article said:
American negotiators therefore submitted a draft agreement demanding that China stop giving special support to its state-owned enterprises, allow U.S. firms to serve the Chinese market without sharing industrial technology with Chinese partners, amend Chinese laws that were inconsistent with the U.S. demands, and allow Washington to establish an office in Beijing to monitor China’s compliance.
Xi's opinion:
article said:
Xi believes that China has the stronger negotiating position. U.S. tariffs have hurt the Chinese economy much less than the Trump administration seems to believe.
...
Xi takes a long view of the trade war. Sources in China quote him as saying that as China rises, it must expect 30 years of “containment and provocation” from the United States, lasting until 2049—the hundredth anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China—when he expects China to surpass the United States in economic and military strength.

The Great “Hollowing Out” of the U.S. Job Market (pdf): https://www.pgim.com/wps/wcm/connect/ebba7cfe-e18c...

article said:
We find that the jobs created through the current expansion have a distinct “barbell” feature. The economy has generated a big chunk of high-paying jobs in sophisticated fields like management, computer and mathematical science, and business and finance. Similarly, many jobs have been created in low-skilled, low-paying segments, such as food preparation and personal care and services. Consistent with this, we also find a remarkable further hollowing out of jobs in the middle of the income distribution.

This evidence echoes a broad academic literature that has documented a polarization in the labor market during the past four decades. The academic work has linked these developments principally to the effects of evolving technology, but secondarily to trade, globalization, and offshoring. Our paper shows that these broad employment trends have continued with some intensity in the years since the financial crisis.

The importance of the article on jobs I posted above is probably better explained by Vladimir Putin

Full interview here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/c6dme...

Putin said:
You and I are talking ahead of the G20 meeting. It is an economic forum, and it will undoubtedly have discussions on globalisation, global trade and international finance.

Has anyone ever given a thought to who actually benefited and what benefits were gained from globalisation, the development of which we have been observing and participating in over the past 25 years, since the 1990s?

China has made use of globalisation, in particular, to pull millions of Chinese out of poverty.

What happened in the US, and how did it happen? In the US, the leading US companies — the companies, their managers, shareholders and partners — made use of these benefits. The middle class hardly benefited from globalisation. The take-home pay in the US (we are likely to talk later about real incomes in Russia, which need special attention from the government). The middle class in the US has not benefited from globalisation; it was left out when this pie was divided up.

The Trump team sensed this very keenly and clearly, and they used this in the election campaign. It is where you should look for reasons behind Trump’s victory, rather than in any alleged foreign interference. This is what we should be talking about here, including when it comes to the global economy.

I believe this may explain his seemingly extravagant economic decisions and even his relations with his partners and allies. He believes that the distribution of resources and benefits of globalisation in the past decade was unfair to the US.

I am not going to discuss whether it was fair or not, and I will not say if what he is doing is right or wrong. I would like to understand his motives, which is what you asked me about. Maybe this could explain his unusual behaviour.

Trumps International destroys SSSI, his toady in charge (Sarah Malone) complains it's politically motivated to remove his golf course as a SSSI.

Her linked profile is interesting (Sarah Malone that is). Probably not his type though.

It's an extremely convincing accusation. Unfortunately we have become numb to this. That Trump is a rapist and a serial sexual abuser is a given but the moronic right just don't care. The likes of Lindsey Graham have sold their souls to this monster.

The House Ethics Committee is formally investigating whether Rep. Matt Gaetz attempted to intimidate Michael Cohen ahead of his testimony to Congress earlier this year.

Gaetz declined the committee's request to appear for an in-person interview.

This will be when Getz decided to interfere on behalf of trump
"Hey @MichaelCohen212 - Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends?" Gaetz, one of Trump's most loyal GOP allies in the House, wrote. "Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot..."

I think this sums it up:

Michelle Goldberg
@michelleinbklyn
All the biggest Trump scandals are concentrated into this week. His administration is torturing children. He's credibly accused of rape. He's joking with Putin about murdering journalists. And our political system has lost the capacity to respond.

Former president Jimmy Carter says a full investigation “would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016….He was put into office because the Russians interfered.” Does that mean he’s an illegitimate president? “Based on what I said, which I can’t retract.”

Sarah Sanders has left. She tweeted:

Sarah Sanders
@PressSec
Today I’ll walk out the gates of the White House for the last time as Press Secretary with my head held high. It’s been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to work with President @realDonaldTrump and his amazing team the last three and a half years. You’re the best...Thank you!

Lets remember that Sanders admitted to federal prosecutors that she repeatedly lied to the American people, fabricating a correspondence with imaginary disgruntled FBI agents to defend the President’s firing of James Comey.

USA 2 France 1. Both American goals scored by Rapinoe. 1st was a cracker of a free kick, 2nd was a top class run from someone (Heath?) followed by a pass with perfect backspin that sat the ball at Rapinoe's feet. France's goal was well deserved, it was not a one way match.

England vs USA in the semis which as a Scotsman is going to be horribly conflicting, I'd love to see the lionesses lift the trophy because home countries n all that but on the other hand I've always been a sucker for Americana and if America lift the trophy we might see some epic twittering.

When you've policies to make it as unpleasant as possible for those trying to get into the US, separate the children, deny entry, why would you bother to feed those in captivity?

Immigrants housed in a federal detention center in Texas were fed frozen sandwiches, cold burritos and potato chips, and detained children and young mothers have complained of hunger to visiting attorneys.

Details gleaned from government procurement data reflect what a nutritionist and two doctors described as a highly processed, unhealthy menu for families held in five detention centers operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Texas. Breakfasts consist mostly of cereal bars, lunches of ramen noodles or bologna sandwiches and dinners of microwaveable burritos and chimichangas. Some healthier items, like oatmeal, applesauce and peanut butter, are also listed – but in much lower quantities.
