Not sure how people can spin this is a good result for May.

Over a third of her MP's have voted against her- no doubt more if she hadn't agreed to not lead the party into the next election.

What authority does she have in the house?

When the books are eventually written it would not surprise me that May indirectly triggered the vote by persuading some to submit their letters in exchange for furthers honours or roles... (yes I am a cynic)

But there must be nothing more surprising to someone holding a gun to your head (JRM) then to pull the trigger yourself and watch him recoil in surprise.
Could TM be the Mistress of the Dark Arts? Who would have thunk it...
It would explain JRMs anger tonight...

Yes it is a bit special to pick as an example of a good PM a film about said PM seducing one of his staff

very special indeed

CS is just overwhelmed with joy.

He can still tell the grand kiddies that he voted for May so she can 'own' Brexit.

He's probably already put in his own request to May for a framed photo with an autograph so the grand kiddies know just who May was wink
And the tories are acting just as predicted, how is your brexit going? all i need now is a no deal/wto and mine is complete. happy days
The alternative being May's deal, it sounds like you and I want the same thing.

I'll ask for May's autographed pic in a frame if that's what we end up with, and post it on, is that a deal?

Of little use when she still can't get a vote through.

That is vexing. Maybe she only won because nobody else is stupid enough to want that job right now... but I doubt it.

Why hasn't this been widely reported. Despicable from the Tories to garner extra votes.

meh, 13 months on and no arrest or charge, seems like a reasonable call in the circumstances
He hasn't been cleared yet either. My understanding is that the case is still open. And why only on the day of a critical vote, do the Tories reinstate the whip?

Does a PMs popularity normally go the other way
Bit of a difference between a fresh leadership contest for a totally new PM where there are other named contenders and a sitting PM who you'd expect to command a massive percentage of their own party in a confidence vote.

Fake news bingo.. Reference please.

In other news, Facbook have confirmed that The Peoples Vote spent over £150,000 in just two months on over 1,200 seperate adverts (also known as micro-targetting) for their cause. Apparently it's OK when they do it.

It's a straightforward test as to whether MPs believe a leadership contest should be held
It was well over the 50:50 line so no contest
Any decent organisation would now set their differences aside and proceed as one

However this is politics laugh

Quite right. The comments by JRM on the news were appallingly sour grapes.
Youd be forgiven for thinking JRM was the opposition
He’s plotted in the shadows for years and finally plucked up the courage to play his hand, and lost. Seems quite a few MPs indicated they would support the ERG and didn’t.

It’s a terrible situation when the main opposition are your own back benchers. Labour sitting back and letting the conservatives implode. I wonder if Mogg would be so intent on undermining his own party leader if there was a credible opposition party?

Let’s hope the ERG lot finally split and form their own party.

The Conservatives desperately need to sort their st out and start pulling together. If anyone but Corbynovich and McDonnellov were the grim alternative they would be getting absolutely destroyed in the polls.

A confidence vote by your own party where you're expected to command a massive majority to have any authority is going to have massively different criteria for success compared with a referendum vote put to the public.

The irony of the extreme Brexiteers trying to push a narrative that May's victory wasn't wide enough when they've been moaning at remainers for not accepting a 52/48 result would be funny if it wasn't so bloody annoying and crassly stupid.

When you need 103% of your party (there or thereabouts) to follow the whip in order to have the confidence of the house and you can only have 63% of it, you have a very big problem.

The choice (peoples vote) will be between Mays (soft Brexit) deal, or remain. Happy days.
