You are using the SWISS to make an example of people willling to pay more? How will that work out for the poor and destitute living in the downtrodden areas of the US?
I'm using an example of a country with a very expensive cost of living and very restrictive tariffs on imports to show that 'protectionism' and the higher prices that will typically bring, actually can ultimately work out pretty good on the whole for the population.

I thought that was pretty obvious, but oh well.

And how would it work in a country which isn't as unfathomably wealthy as Switzerland?!

Again - laugh

I don't blame them at all! I feel awful for the way their economies have been decimated.

But Trump will NOT be able to help them with his fairy stories of 'making America great again' unless he literally gives them his own billlions of dollars in brown envelopes.

You think I have contempt for the poor people. I don't. But I do for the person selling them lies that he will get them or of it.

Did you even read what I said in my post???

We get served up a set of stooges by the establishment. 'Left leaning' , 'Right Leaning' - feck all difference as they all enact policies that disadvantage the public and enrich the establishment. Typically, someone that ordinary people feel that they can relate to or trust.

Obama is an example taken straight from the mould set by Tony Blair. Someone who has star appeal and massive 'liberal' credibility with the wider public. Having such a figurehead is a great way to get even more non-liberal crap past the general population - as evidenced by the massive expansion of state spying on the US public under his regime. Not to mention the multiple wars and conflicts he started, the drone strikes, the persecution of whistleblowers (with the token commutation for Manning at the end) etc.

Rather telling how many liberal-identifying people who didn't give out a peep about the NSA under Obama are now freaking out when it dawns on them that Trump (and every single president to come) has access to the same sinister apparatus.

Oh dear, it looks like we have a joyous night ahead of us. I've been a bit disappointed to see all the fragile little lefties going quiet as of late, but judging by this thread in the last day or two we might yet see a few more meltdowns a la Unrep.

Bring it on! I'll be sitting in the corner sipping a beer and watching it all unfold... and them all unravel.

The BEST thing about Trump supporters is that they think they are a majority in the country and that the US voted for some huge tectonic shift to stick it to the man laugh

They don't even realise that they are the minority of actual people in the US!

It's fantastic biggrin

Have you considered that the reason why the Swiss - and not just the small percentage who are foreign millionaires who seek residence there, the actual regular citizen just like regular citizens anywhere else - are so well off is precisely because they enact control over imports?

This pushes up the cost of living, but the higher salaries across the board easily pay for that. I reckon when I went there, the cost of living was getting on 2x what it was in the UK but as I was earning 3x in a similar job, I was better off.

Far better to live in an 'expensive' country with decent job security and pay than to live in a 'cheap' country with poor job security and low levels of pay, as you can always choose to economise and save more of your take-home pay.

In many ways Trump and Bernie were singing from the same song sheet in this regard (the off shoring of jobs, blue collar issues). Trump may not have the answers, but he at least recognised the problem and pointed a finger, your average Joe recognised that.

You can tell it's not Britain because none of the women are wearing hats. Plus if they were British they wouldn't have wasted so many millions on plastic surgery.

That's what the likes of 'p1stonhead' just don't get . I've been trying to make my points as simple as possible, but he doesn't seem to be taking them on board.

Corbyn too, is benefiting from the same anti-establishment effect.

I understand that people liked that he acknowledged them.

But you don't seem to see the fact that he won't be able to magically change the world economy to help them.

They are totally different points.

Have you ever been to the USA? Cheapness trumps (haha!) everything in my experience.

its incredibly arrogant of you to think you can talk for millions of people. Our own Gov rarely get more than 40% of the public vote so most Governments in the UK are by your measure minority. At least understand the rules before posting.
