In the context of the case, the latter. The BBC doesn't typically report every heart attack suffered by a South African Psycholgist AFAIK.
Of course they don't, but they did report this one. If you are going to report it at all, it's not unreasonable to expect at least some indication of the victim's health. But no, turns out Oscar was right. It is all about him. Doesn't matter who dies around him as long as the world sees the celebrity get his day in court and we don't have too long to see it (live, nog al!)It seems the defence tactic of bringing mental issues to the table has backfired fairly spectacularly. No doubt they knew it was a risky route, though the potential downside with regards its effect on likelihood of finding guilt and/or sentencing if it went wrong must have made it a tough call.
I hope the outcome here reflects the merits of the case based on the events and people that evening, rather than subsequent Police mishandling of the evidence and procedures.

The quotes from the psychological report sound pretty good for Oscar. He's normal. Comes across as a nice fella. Heightening fear response. No narcicistic behaviour. Other bits. He's had a decent couple of days. Roux is about to call his last witness so it sounds as if we're reaching the latter stages of the trial.

I'm not sure how they're 'good', when they contradict what the defence was trying to establish- that he was abnormally affected and therefore had a reduced culpability. tenpenceshort said:

I'm not sure the defence was trying to establish anything. The report was asked for by the prosecution. My view of the reports is that they paint OP in a light which is quite favourable given the case the prosecution has been trying to make. i.e. that he's a controlling nutcase, prone to bouts of temper, and killed RS in a fit of rage. Much of the psych report suggests to the contrary IMHO.
The Prosecution pre-empted the Defence in calling for the psychological report, in order to ward off any later attempt by the defence to appeal on the grounds of diminished responsibility - basically playing the Defences' joker now, rather than when they wanted to.Rocksteadyeddie said:

The defence introduced a psychological report and, during the trial, a psychologist expert called by the defence gave evidence to the effect that Pistorius had psychological issues that had effected his culpability on that night. It was this action by the defence, in trying to reduce his culpability, that allowed the prosecution to apply to the court for a State assessment (which the defence opposed and lost). This subsequent, State report, contradicts the earlier evidence produced by the defence and says that Pistorius was fully able to distinguish between right and wrong at the time of the killing. This is damaging to Pistorius. tenpenceshort said:
