POrtillo, as ever was brilliant on TW, going through the usual suspects on the next leader, bunch of deplorables and naming the one name that pops up here a lot, Ruth. He enjoys his life so much ore out of politics.
His train show yesterday was good as well.
Indeed, it was sad to hear what he had to say about us now not having any chance of getting a proper Brexit where we get out of the customs union, There goes all the benefits of leaving, I hope he is wrong on that one.His train show yesterday was good as well.
He didn't hold back on Liz, he is bang on too, she is toast as is her type of Labour MP now. Very dangerous situation for us all.

soooo Jezza gets into #10 by the back door (aka civil unrest as encouraged by mcdonal). Given the (current) top labour bods political leanings what is to stop them passing a law that unless 50/60/70% of 'the people' vote that the current regime stay in power...
The whole political establishment and about 800 years of history.I liked what Young Snow had to say as well, a Presidential campaign, but with a s
ty FPTP system, a real horrible mash-up.
Some good points by Portillo, Liz and the Scottish guy at the end, all great. The ones that are popular, are authentic and say what they think, Ruth, JC, Farage (not mentioned), it was sort of amusing that earlier Portillo said Chukka/Liz et al were on the way out, but one of the factors in that is they are not really seen as authentic, with their weaselly Cameron/Blair like spiel.
LIked Scotty's take on Farron as well, he was spot on.

The Customs Union IF unencumbered by us not being able to make our own trade deals is not an issue IMO (though I'm not sure how that could work practically). But regardless, if we do not exit properly then both the Tories and Labour can watch out for a huge backlash.
I don't see either risking that - can you imagine the furore from the other if one did!
I also think Portillo needed picking up on his comment that people had rejected "hard" Brexit as a result of the election. They categorically did not:
1) parties that took 90% of the seats noted free movement needed to end. That's "hard Brexit".
2) The election was a multi policy decision. You cannot read anything into it about one policy in isolation, unless someone is standing on one policy (so both LibDems and SNP were kicked in the bawbag).
IMO May "lost" this election due to her policy on social care, on not engaging Corbyn positively on tuition fees and other unaffordable budgetary elements and also on totally insane minutiae like fox hunting.
If she'd have addressed those things more effectively (and on the latter by not bringing them up at all), she'd have won a majority. Not huge, but the complexion would now be very different.

The terrorist incidents in the run up to the election didn't help eitherIf she'd have addressed those things more effectively (and on the latter by not bringing them up at all), she'd have won a majority. Not huge, but the complexion would now be very different.
It brought under scrutiny her tenure and legacy as Home Secretary. Her judgement was called into serious question and she was shown to be far from a safe pair of hands.

IMO she could have handled those much better too. There was really no need for those to have been a weakness. It brought under scrutiny her tenure and legacy as Home Secretary. Her judgement was called into serious question and she was shown to be far from a safe pair of hands.
The authorities dealt with them well. Laud that, and also try and land the "privacy" angle in a more positive light....the modern equivalent of "we'll fight them on the beaches" etc.
But she cannot think on her feet, and has a poor personality for projecting strength. OK as a back bencher or maybe junior minister. But no good in a serious position.
Her advisers were also thick as two short planks. Whether better ones would have resulted in anything different, who knows. And I guess the theory that people hire in their own likeness probably took its toll here too.
I'm hoping she'll hang around until Brexit is done with, then clear the way for someone better (which isn't a narrow field at present).
Oh this should be a good one. They always have a hysterical shrill hen representing the left but that Miller cow should get an absolute roasting. She's the prime example of someone who thinks those that shout loudest are the ones with the moral right to subvert any democratic process.

She went through the courts to force a vote on Article 50, it passed. Why is she still being given airtime?
Because she went through the courts to get herself on TV and doesn't seem to think that's a job finished yet, despite looking like a moron most of the time... Murph7355 said:
