The vaccine supply is now here apparantly and the supply slump is over so all these need delivering but it looks like it will be ready to go from Monday!

Will be great if they can hit 32m before end of March
Excellent news.

Good news. They’re saying up to 4m doses a week, which averages out to roughly 570k per day. Given the beginning of the week is usually off to a slower start, the Fri/Sat figures ought to be very impressive. I’m going to lick my finger, wave it in the air and make a wild guess, a prediction that a week Saturday will report 850k new doses. Let’s see how far off that is...

How many do they reckon there are left to do in the first 9 groups?

I think there’s about 8.7m left from the first 9 groups. Although I’ve forgotten when they were aiming to have them all done by, was it the end of March? If so, potentially they’ll be pretty close. Maybe a day or two either side perhaps, provided they can ramp up to at least 4m a week.

Edit just to add- we’ve still got another four days of jabbing this week before we get to the anticipated ramp up, with 274k yesterday, it’s probably reasonable to assume we'll chew through another 1m before Monday, so they’ll effectively have two weeks to jab just under 8m. Certainly doable if the rumoured 4m/week is true.

Clearly the govt have a very clear view on vaccine delivery timescales and jabbing forecasts, when Bojo announced they were aiming for the first four groups to be done by mid February I thought ‘wow, optimistic but yeah, go for it’ yet they nailed it. It’s shaping up that we’ll also hit the end of March target. That in turn gives me optimism that the other vaccine milestones are actually obtainable, based on careful analysis and not just plucking dates out of thin air. Very much looking forward to the end of July when they aim to have all adults done with the first dose.

Already been done, thanks smile

Our LA organised it with the local vacc centre that education staff (and the volunteers that were doing school testing stations) could go in and pick up the unused jabs at the end of the day.

These figures were released yesterday so today it will be over 23m and there’s 32m in groups 1-9 so around 9m to do with the first dose!

So if by Monday we are at 24m and they can hit 4m a week then it should take 14 days from Monday (29th March)

I booked my first vaccination for the 20th March after getting a text from my surgery yesterday. I'm 44 and in good health so it was a welcome surprise. I'm London based but a colleague who is Kent based and the same age (and in good health) has his booked for the 19th. Great progress!

This seems to correlate on a local level in our Borough.
In addition to our existing vaccination centre (where I volunteer), we have a new mass vaccination centre opening on the 15th at our local leisure centre. Reviewing the volunteer shifts, the new centre is scheduled to be open EVERY day for the next 4 weeks! The current centre is only open max 4 days a week (some half days) and the new centre is x 3 larger, so a huge increase to capacity.

A friend of mine had his jab over the weekend. Early 50s, but with high blood pressure so shuffled nearer the front of the queue a little. He said the next couple of days his arm reminded him of having a BCG.
Once his two teenage daughters found out they entertained themselves by flicking or slapping his arm whenever near. The little darlings. laugh

I got a text from my doctors surgery (WIndsor & Maidenhead) yesterday asking me to book a first vaccination jab, so I've got mine on Tuesday . I was 50 in September, no health issues, so quite surprised, but I guess they're working well through the older groups and extending downwards now.

Funnily enough yesterday a mate also posted similar on Facebook (shows how old we are!) and at least 10 locals of similar age piped up and said they'd got theirs booked too.

I was joking that I'd leave my 40 something wife and kids at home in June after my second jab and bugger off to Greece for a month by myself. She was not amused...

It made me think though, there seems a bit of an irony for those, who apart from very few exceptions are affected least by the virus, who have all been locked down to protect the older generations hardest hit. What's going to happen when hordes of these age groups start heading for the airport waving their vaccine passports while the majority of healthy folk are stuck at home? I guess this is one of the reasons the vaccine rollout is being pushed hard to avoid this generational conflict!

I must have missed the supply slump - don't recall the govt going batst crazy asking contracts from Big Pharma and threatening blockades smile

Still not convinced there's much need to give specific figures on this stuff. But politicians gotta hustle I guess.

There are two ways of handling a short-term shortfall. We've now seen the EU approach (rattle out of pram) and the UK approach which just seem to be plough on regardless without making a fuss till supplies pick up again.

Just had my AZ jab at Boots today ( age 59). Very efficient and a steady stream of folk before and after me. Was asked if I identified myself as white/male. I replied how did you guess.Thought it was a bit risky for the lady to make that assumption in these politically correct times but as a typical Yorkshire bloke was actually quite pleased she did. If she had asked if I identified myself as female I might have been more worried smile

Identify is another over used word.

Have you ever woke up in the morning and said ok - i need to identify myself?
What do you do - sign your wrist in confirmation?

What?

Have you ever seen a crime thriller where the hero asks the unknown villain to identify themselves? Did they sign their own wrists in the film? Do they offer them a pen?

Of course not! They were asking the villain to tell them who they are.

Same usage here. I can tell what you look like, but only you can tell me who you think you are, so how do you identify yourself?

Just got the letter so tried to book my jab

Nearest Centre is 90 mine each way and it cant do the second jab

Stupid system - I know for a fact that the nearest place to me that vaccinates is 8 minutes away and the next nearest is 15 mins away

I guess they must be booked up, but thats odd as I live in a rural area with low population density.

I would take the opportunity for a state sanctioned day trip out and go the scenic route as well, take a picnic.

You could also try phoning your doctors surgery to see if there is an issue at the other center, they may have manning issues or something.

Edit to add; I have just been told that our local centre has shut for a couple of days due to lack of supply of the vaccine, new stocks expected over the weekend.
