He's already trying to tip the vote.

It's almost certain that he's not finished. With the supreme Court stacked he can get away with a lot.

The American reverence for their old documents (constitution and bill of rights) is admirable, but ultimately the defence of both relies entirely on having enough good people in power to do the right thing.

That is why I've never been concerned with the fact Australia and the UK don't have one. The courts are quite willing to smack down a government that goes too far.
UK does have a constitution, it's just not codified into a single document, but made up of thousands.

It's certainly going to be very interesting to see how history views him and his time as POTUS.
Really? I think that is a foregone conclusion.

Sorry, I meant to say a bill of rights, which AFAIK the UK doesn't have.

I meant to point out that freedoms and rights (which we do have) are living things and need to be defended as such.

History is written by the victors... Although in some cases, the survivors.

If Trump is successful in stealing the election, in 20 years time it may be taught (at least in the US) as a great victory against the left... Maybe the 1984 thread is right... It's here in all its orange glory.

You can't fiddle the vote either way in the USA. Too many backstops, though it would take some time to unravel.

The constitution, though I just slagged it off as being olde worldee, is still up for that, at least.
There is plenty of evidence of ballot rigging in the USA where people are removed from the electoral register without their knowledge.

It's also illegal to vote if you have a federal conviction, which has disenfranchised millions of Americans for life.

The Dems and the dem leaning media have done a much better job this time in getting people to check they are registered to vote.

The big issue is the swing states and middle America, it's by no means a done deal there. Trump has done what they wanted with regards to energy and military. It's far closer than the polls suggest as far as electoral college votes.

I haven't seen the 1984 thread but Trump will be judged harshly even if he is gracious in defeat, which he won't be. However, it won't be as harsh as his enablers will be judged imo. Rightly so.

UK bill of rights was signed in 1689.

But if you don't vote for Biden then you aren't black, and don't forget that poor kids are just as talented as white kids. The left's double standards are the only standards they have.
Yes, that's shocking. It's up there with actively pushing for 5 innocent black kids to be given the death penalty, having 26 people accuse you of rape, being convicted of ripping off your own Charity, admitting to perving at teenage girls..........

The incels that seem to make up much of the US far right never had any standards. The GOP stopped having standards when they started sucking on Trump's teat.

Including his own daughter:

When Donald Trump was watching his 16-year-old daughter Ivanka host the 1997 Miss Teen USA pageant, he turned to the then-Miss Universe and asked: “Don’t you think my daughter’s hot? She’s hot, right?”

That anecdote, told to the New York Times by Brook Antoinette Mahealani Lee, appears to be the first recorded incident of the Republican presidential candidate and reality TV star making comments about his daughter’s body which those present have deemed inappropriate.

In the almost 20 years since, Mr Trump has called his eldest daughter “voluptuous”. He’s said it’s OK to describe her as “a piece of ass”, though she is a senior executive in his business empire. And he’s said that, if she wasn’t his daughter, “perhaps [he’d] be dating her”.

The James Woods radicalization is pretty scary stuff. I don't know a lot about him, but I am assuming it took trump to turn him as nuts as he is now?
Thing is Pail he's but an ex-actor with a, dare I say it large following many of which think as her does.

At the end of the day it's all down to the numbers, or at least it should be.

Nope. He will become more powerful than ever for 2 months until Biden gets sworn in.
Why the hell do they have this two month transition? It's almost as if the system was designed to be abused.
It's because a new administration changes everything. A complete change of personnel. And the system is different from the UK, there is no "shadow cabinet" ready to take over the following morning.

I do think that if Trump loses he will go full scorched earth in the lame duck unfortunately.

His twitter following is tiny compared to anti Trump celebs like Taylor Swift (87 million), Rhianna (98 million), Le Bron James (41 million) and literally dozens of others. Oh, and Obama has 123 million.

A lot of the people who follow James Woods do so to troll him. He's a washed up has been whack job.

The UK has a similar process, except we do it every election. When an election is called the party in power becomes a "caretaker government" which has limited power.

This is presicely to prevent a doomed govt from going scorched earth on the public sector.

Not really. James Woods has been a full on right winger for some time. Its a shame as he did some really great work years ago with Salvador and Videodrome. But now he's a nutter.

Here's an interesting one, Ivanka's a lesbian apparently: https://popcrush.com/aubrey-oday-ivanka-lesbian-al...

It'll be interesting to see how the mighty Orange deals with this. If he gets into a twitter spat with the author maybe he'll forget he's in a race for the presidency?

I posted a trump 'meme' on facebook which got taken literally to mean I was a supporter and was absolutely appauled at some of the comments where people were insulting my apperance, investing my business, etc etc. I deleted it after a few hours and luckily it didn't cause any lasting effect but regardless I can see now why trump supporters will be stubborn to change their views - I can't imagine getting that amount of st daily!
The extremists on both sides are verging on mentally ill. Best to avoid using your real name with anything to do with politics on social media at the moment. Remember the good old days when you could discuss things civilly and still be friends? frown
The USA reminds me of the UK in the 1980s with Foot and Thatcher to be honest before they both learnt how to compete for the central ground.....

The problem is the USA is getting more extreme over time, not more bipartisan. Hence why this is an empire ready to fall. The vultures are waiting.

ie it doesn't.
