I really need to brush up on this stuff. confused
I think that's where it originated, but I've noticed people describing themselves as woke or awake because they believe in one or more of the following:

Flat Earth
Space doesn't exist
Moon landings didn't happen
The ISS is not real
Chemtrails are real
911 was an inside job

This is the best definition I found:
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wo...

Says it all really!
Fits in beautifully with trumpettes - conspiracy believers love to ignore all the evidence presented before them and go with their own gut feeling because they believe they are more intelligent, know more.

So you can present all the evidence that trump is the most corrupt president ever, is beholden to several foreign powers because of the money he's taken, is making world changing decisions because he's compromised as such and they'll dismiss all that evidence because they don't wont to hear it, they'll make up their own reality instead.

No wonder trump doesn't want Bolton to testify. Bolton knows all and has written about it in his book.

President Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens, according to an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser, John R. Bolton.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/26/us/politics/tru...

"Secretary of State Mike Pompeo acknowledged privately that there was no basis to claims by the president's lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani that the ambassador to Ukraine was corrupt and believed Mr. Giuliani may have been acting on behalf of other clients, Mr. Bolton wrote."

House Impeachment Managers: "There can be no doubt now that Mr. Bolton directly contradicts the heart of the President's defense and therefore must be called as a witness at the impeachment trial of President Trump."

"Senators should insist that Mr. Bolton be called as a witness, and provide his notes and other relevant documents. The Senate trial must seek the full truth and Mr. Bolton has vital information to provide. There is no defensible reason to wait."

"The president's statement as described by Mr. Bolton could undercut a key element of his impeachment defense: that the holdup in aid was separate from Mr. Trump's requests that Ukraine announce investigations into his perceived enemies."

No surprise there that trump was caught lying again. So much evidence now into this corrupt act.

Trump tweets this and gets 200k likes:

Reports are that basketball great Kobe Bryant and three others have been killed in a helicopter crash in California. That is terrible news!

Then Obama tweets this and gets 2 million likes:

Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day.

So then Trump tweets this:

Kobe Bryant, despite being one of the truly great basketball players of all time, was just getting started in life. He loved his family so much, and had such strong passion for the future. The loss of his beautiful daughter, Gianna, makes this moment even more devastating....

.....Melania and I send our warmest condolences to Vanessa and the wonderful Bryant family. May God be with you all!

Many people are saying he is the Neediest President of all time. Perhaps the Neediest ever!
Michelle Obama has won a Grammy for her audiobook recording of her memoir 'Becoming' in the Best Spoken Word Album category.

Oh dear - even the Fox news poll

On impeachment, by a 50-44% margin, voters think the Senate should vote to convict Trump and remove him from office.

among independents, more say Trump should be removed by a 19-point margin (53-34%).

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/479973...

Fox news haven't included Judge Napolitano for any of its special impeachment trial coverage because he's pointed out that trump is guilty.

Obstruction proven?

trump had a copy of Boltons manuscript since the end of December. trump and team trump including McConnel have known for almost a month that Bolton described first-hand how Trump personally ordered aid withheld from Ukraine pending investigations into the Bidens! No wonder McConnell tried to rush impeachment through without witnesses

That slow drip of more and more evidence is turning into a flood

The letter shows that the White House owed Bolton an answer within 30 days, which is this week. I wonder if that deadline, and a belief they could keep him quiet until then, was driving the push on impeachment timing.

Democrats do not appear close to getting the 4 GOP votes needed for witnesses to appear in President Donald Trump's impeachment trial. Republicans say privately that they don’t believe it would benefit themselves politically to hear witnesses.

Rep. Don Beyer
@RepDonBeyer
Republican Senators are reportedly preparing to reject witnesses because they say privately that holding a fair trial would not “benefit themselves politically.”

In other words they think evidence could prove Trump’s guilt, so they intend to cover it up.

The donald isn't happy - https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump

"I NEVER told John Bolton that the aid to Ukraine was tied to investigations into Democrats, including the Bidens. In fact, he never complained about this at the time of his very public termination. If John Bolton said this, it was only to sell a book. With that being said, the transcripts of my calls with President Zelensky are all the proof that is needed, in addition to the fact that President Zelensky & the Foreign Minister of Ukraine said there was no pressure and no problems. Additionally, I met with President Zelensky at the United Nations (Democrats said I never met) and released the military aid to Ukraine without any conditions or investigations – and far ahead of schedule. I also allowed Ukraine to purchase Javelin anti-tank missiles. My Administration has done far more than the previous Administration."

trump of course is lying again including what his dictated summary says. It’s a summary, not a transcript, trump hid that away on a secure server, along with other transcripts such as interpretor notes he took from his private meeting with Putin.
Trump only released the aid after he learned of the whistleblower complaint.

McConnell wanted the trial rushed through - Pelosi waited

So now we've had Lev Parnas revealing lots of incriminating evidence against trump, the leak of Igor Fruman’s secret recording of trump and now Boltons book that also incriminates trump further...

Just the other day, trump’s legal team has told the Senate that there’s no evidence Trump tied Ukraine aid to investigations, yet they'd known for a month that Bolton was saying this in his book...

These were the lawyers that trump wanted to represent Parnas, who told him to keep quiet, who still represent Fruman

This.

He's going to argue, when one of these tweets actually gets someone/some people hurt, that he was, of course, referring to the price being at the ballot box and not in any way, shape or form anything else.

They'll be a real problem if he legitimately loses the election in November.

I thought Giuliani was acting on behalf of citizen Donald J Trump and not President Donald J Trump during this 'investigation', wasn't that in one of the letters Giuliani sent to the Ukrainians?

Question is what does citizen Trump care about corruption in Ukraine? It only helps him from a 2020 re-election campaign.

It's one of the many claims - yes...
So claimed because of course trump wasn't paying him, but he was monitising his connections to trump, just like every other member of team trump charged/convicted so far...

[Speculation and tin foil hattery]

It would be really interesting to know who leaked this and why. From a democrat perspective the motivation is clear, put pressure on Bolton to testify and make clear to the public that the impeachment process is a sham. However that's also a useful framing device if someone else had a motivation for leaking this book extract...

From Bolton's perspective the possibility of having to testify has got to be ringing alarm bells. On the one hand he knows that if he lies under oath then he'll go down with Trump in the end, plus I can't imagine he would willingly do so after a lifetime of promoting the integrity and superiority of American democracy. On the other hand if he testifies truthfully then he could become the democrat's star witness who brought about the downfall of Trump, also a position he would rather not be in.

A lose lose proposition for both Bolton and the GOP.

I'm thinking that if he has already put his testimony in writing and then released that manuscript to the NSC (plus potentially others like an editor, publisher or confidant) then he has already decided that he is not going to compromise his own integrity by lying to save Trump. He has also decided that he is going to make this position clear sooner rather than later, because if the manuscript is already completed then the book can not be more than months away from publication.

This leak could have been done by Bolton himself to create extra pressure on the GOP to not allow witnesses as they know what he's going to say. It also allows him to keep his integrity and if it happens to promote his book at the same time then what's not to like?

Win win proposition for Bolton.

It's just fking nuts that there is naked ambition and self-preservation at the heart of this, wilfully obstructing justice and the removal of a clearly unhinged President.

I know it's obvious that anyone, or at least most people, who get into office do everything they can do to cling onto power once they get in there, but surely even the Republicans must think that Pence would be a saner bet for them.

It's depressing to think about this circus knowing that nothing is going to happen simply because it's in the best interests of all of the individuals who have the power to maintain the status quo. He might be an unstable cretin, but he's their unstable cretin, and the alternative - a Democrat is an outcome none of them can bear to consider, even if it means sacrificing every moral fibre they have.

I know there is thought that you need to appear to your base, but that only gets you so far and you need to get the swing voters to sign and get you into power. They seem to be so far alienating a number of potential voters by following trump off a cliff.
