What did make me chuckle was the architect of the Vote Leave campaign admitting to misleading people and being seemingly ambivalent (in fact didn't even know) as to whether Brexit was a good thing or not.
It seems to be more that he keeps an open mind about it and the motivations of those who supported the "other side".

Cummings said:
I think anyone who says they’re sure about questions like that [Brexit] has got a screw loose, whether you’re on the remain side or our side. I think one of the reasons why we won is precisely, in Vote Leave we didn’t think that we’re definitely right and Remainers are all idiots or traitors or anything else… we never thought like that in, then and still don’t and I don’t know. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to say Brexit was a mistake and the little, the history will, will, will prove that, of course it’s reasonable for some people to, to think that.
Didn't DomCum say that anyone that thought Brexit would be a success was delusional? Quite a statement from the architect of Brexit, and a trifle embarrassing for those making sunlit upland claims!

Personally I think the screw loose quote is the most intelligent thing said about Brexit so far.

Correct. Cummings took arrogance and narcissism to a whole new level. LK didn’t seem to like him from the off but that inexorably developed to disgust as the interview went on, she seemed unable to comprehend how he, or any one else, could utter such things in private, let alone on camera.

Cummings may come to rue this interview as I doubt even the BBC will show any sympathy for him or his approach from now on if, indeed, half of it wasn’t made up bks. It will be a brave, nay stupid, individual who puts their head above the parapet to make political points from this interview. It will be interesting to see the general public’s take on this, if indeed they can be bothered to form one.

Does anyone really think Gove or anyone else will take this unhinged madman anywhere near government from now on?
Seriously, what interview did you watch?
I conclude that:

- You didn’t think Cummings was arrogant if narcisstic in the slightest.
- You think LK actually liked Cummings and thought all his responses were reasonable and totally believable.
- You think the BBC will press forward with an agenda based on the content of this interview.
- You think Cummings didn’t embellish anything at all.
- You think Cummings will be taken back advising a Conservative government in the future.
- You are willing to try and make political capital out of this interview.

On the latter point, I rest my case.

Quite funny to read two posters coming away with polar opposite views.

Suggests to me that Cummings didn't say what either of you wanted/liked him to say.

You do know that the BBC Director General used to be the deputy chairman of H&F Conservatives don't you!
And you do know that the BBC Chairman has donated over £400,000.00 to the tory Party don't you!

Pesky lefties and their BBC takeover!

Amusingly the ruthless efficiency of the Tory central office is exactly what Blair, Campbell & Mandy intended to replicate with the New Labour Millbank operation.
Thats the party system for a party people voted for. It's not some advisor stabbing his boss in the back straight away. Poliitical parties have a strange way of working, and idiology over being popular is a virtue few can afford (ask any member of the labour party right now in the wake of Corbyn). The way I saw it, it wasn't "I was approached to discuss how to remove him.." it was "and I started to canvas opnion on how we could topple him.." which is entirely different especially when you're a civil servant.

Kuenssberg showed her cards when she described Boris as having a "childhood fantasy to become prime minister" in the leadership race. Childhood dream I could accept, but come on.. she's hardly warm to him or even insightful in her questioning. If she's helped set the tone of the BBC reporting on the whole of Covid then she's done plenty to destroy the BBCs reputation of critical journalism.

Quite, but the more he says the less I can envisage anyone ever wanting to employ, let alone even be associated with him. He's clearly toxic, whether you agree with all or anything he says or not.

Cummings and Keunssberg both need to be tossed into the Sarlacc Pit to be devoured and never heard from again. This would make the world a better place imho.

I was more referring to you thinking Kuenssberg loved Cummings, and others thinking she despised him.

As for the paranoia over the BBC DG - do you think he had any editorial input whatsoever into Cummings interview? Really?

And yet, and yet - he was the influence behind “get Brexit done” which I suspect many were advocates for, in this forum.

He was not proposing himself for PM, Mr Tidy, but the arrogance of the statements that “we” were considering replacing BJ is astonishing. Delusions of Machiavellian grandeur… or were they only delusions at the time?

How the (self believed) mighty have fallen.

Dom is the current hatchet man of choice. Conversations about removing Boris amongst said grey men, started 1 min after the election result was announced. He was absolutely approached. Note how he isn't mentioning anyone else in the Tory party being part of this, he is keeping it all on him and his ppl (cos he is hugely arrogant anyway), so that who/what comes next is blameless (ish).
This whole thing, from when he appeared in front of the committee in May, to these BBC interviews is Dom on a job for someone. Its being a damn sight better run job than the govt is currently doing!

I'd broadly agree.

LK definitely likes the limelight. There was something about the wide shot of the mirrored lighting and mic setup before they got into it that struck me as intentionally placing her as an equal part of the show.

The sharpest question for me, however she quite phrased it, was why did he use the method of slinging all the personal, unsubstantiated mud he could instead of keeping to some salient key points that could be validated and demonstrate he was making a more objective, less emotional argument.

He plays the scorned lover a bit too naturally and seems to be undoing his reputation for having a shrewd political mind.

It's a shame Emily Maitlis didn't get the gig. Then we might have got more out of it.

I did like the bit where he said many of the Tory MPs on his side of the argument were morons. Errr......you think!

Of course you did...!!! biglaugh

And nowhere have I said I think Kuenssberg loved DomCum. She is no Andrew Neil, she didn't hold him to account and I believe her questioning was lightweight.

Do you think the BBC Chairman was parachuted in to make sure the BBC held the Gov to account? (2 can play at that game!).

As I have already said, you really do have to watch the interview if you want to make an impartial opinion on it but that's not as much fun as picking holes in the opinions of the PH tory Ultras fanbois crowd wink

ETA - I would like to see what was agreed between the BBC/Kuenssburg and DomCum to get the interview in the first place.

What, the game of avoiding answering a question? Nope, I don't want to play that one.

I think the DG was put in place to try to curb some of the (perceived) bias in the BBC.

Given that Cummings interview went ahead, I don't think he is exercising editorial control of individual programmes. Apparently you do, but can't admit it.

That depends on what was agreed in advance to get DomCum to do the interview in the first place. Or do you think DomCum simply puts his hands up and said "fair cop Guv, you've got me bang to rights and I'll spill the beans'?

She was dreadful. I used to quite like her, but she's been useless thru the pandemic. People say the BBC is biased, and anti Tory. Well I'm not seeing it. And of course, they should be biased and anti Tony, because the Tories are in power, and the BBC should always adopt a position of holding the govt to account. They should be anti whoever is in charge.

The ridiculous argument she got into over the £350m a week on the Brexit bus. It was the figure before the rebates so a lie, but DC says it was the figure going to the EU, so it wasn't a lie, although it wasn't the net figure. But the bus said that £350m would go to the NHS instead. So it never could, as we weren't paying a net £350m a week to the EU to divert to the NHS, so that was definitely a lie.

She at least mentioned the fact that the Barnard Castle trip took place on his wife's birthday, which was never mentioned in the rose garden, but didn't press him on it, that that was the real reason for the trip. And of course no mention as to why his wife couldn't have driven back, as she was now fully recovered.

He has alluded in the [past to his wife "not wanting to drive his car as it was a big 4x4 type thing". Who gives a fking fk what she likes. People didn't like not being at their dying parents bedside, but put up with it. There was a national emergency on, she should have put her discomfort aside and driven the fking car.

Of course, the whole thing was a lie, the trip to Barnard Castle was a jolly trip out for his wife's birthday.

Cummings is a scumbag, who was recruited by scumbags to work for scumbags. He was sacked by a scumbag, so being a scumbag, he's now fighting back at the scumbags.
