Sorry but what?

The government decides how much we spend on the NHS (and how much we tax to achieve this).
The government decides how much staffing we have in the NHS and how many ICU beds we have.
The government decides when to increase resource and facilities in the event of a crisis.
The government decides how to support people impacted by the virus/isolation. I.e. pay.
They decide when to close the borders.
They decide what testing to do as people come to the UK.
They decide how to isolate people that may have corona.
They decide when to do a lock down or equivlanet.
When to close the schools etc.

You just have to compare Singapore and Italy to see how different decisions by different governments can completely change the consequences of all of this.
You need to stop panicking and grow up. smile

The UK has a population of over 67 million souls, Singapore has less than 6 million. The scales are completely different in terms of what the UK Government would have to provide for an unprecedented emergency contingency kept on the burner at great cost.

To have expected the UK to have the capacity to comfortably absorb what is now happening is wholly unrealistic and ignorant of what would be involved.

The Government is doing what it can in the face of a crisis. To sit on your bum at home and make daft criticisms about something you are very far removed from even remotely being an expert about is plain stupid.

Every country has its own cultural and resource differences to accommodate in dealing with this. There are many variables and not all will be equal for different regions, let alone countries. The scale of the challenge is something some here do not comprehend but still exercise their big pig ignorant gobs in condemning the very people and services who are working under extremely stressful and taxing conditions to save lives and make this crisis go away as quickly as possible.
So you have no response to the basic decisions that a government can make to slow or stop the spread of a disease?

This crisis is going to bring into sharp relief what actual government policy is on essential services. We can spin it as cultural differences or whatever, but there comes a point where the truth can’t hide.

Was there bread?
There was bread depending on what you want. Very little regular sliced white or brown bread but plenty of wholemeal, seeded breads, bloomers (sliced and unsliced), etc.
Local Sainsbury's was re-stocked last night and my OH went at 8am, got a decent shop in.

My father (70) went to different Sainsbury's in the midlands at 7am and shop was not stocked.

Just sat here musing over the lack.of food home delivery available.

There must be a few people with private vans/large vehicles who could take the strain delivering non perishable items leaving more space available in the suprmarkets refrigerated fleet for the rest.

Maybe the supemarkets could tap into this resource...not sure how it could be implemented or if its a sensible option?

...thoughts.

Why would I presume to dictate to the Government and the professional medical experts it is working with that they are in any way wrong? I have no expertise in dealing with virus pandemics. Do you? Why are you assuming that you are qualified to make such accusations?

Do you really think because you can Google what is happening in other countries that you are now an expert in how to manage the current crisis in your own country - by cherry picking what you assume to be a better strategy others may have adopted?

The forensic investigations into the cause and effect of C19 in the years to come will no doubt highlight where individual countries could have done better but, that is in hindsight and it is incredibly difficult to really know the absolute best strategy during the crisis and the reaction phases.

You are panicking, plain a simple and making ignorant assessments with zero qualification or clue. Desperation has set in for you and venting on the internet seems to be your chosen way of dealing with it - crack on, it is a free conversation forum. I'm just pointing out you are not an authority and you are just displaying your obvious inability to hold yourself together. Weak. smile

Wow, what a bunch of scumbags. Hopefully people remember this once the whole saga is over

Trip Advisor has stopped taking reviews now as most have them have been slagging off the hotel for this reason. Spanish worker on the radio right now is talking about literally having to leave on the spot. Shameful.
I like how they start off "Taking government advice...". I must have missed the govt advice telling companies to fire all their staff and turf them out of their accommodation.

Way to go, dheads.
Thankfully as well as highlighting the scum the current situation is also helping to highlight the decent folks amongst us.

Google are still taking reviews and seemingly you can still book rooms there.

Complete Ratner moment. I would imagine they will be close to going bust after this and I have to say I have no remorse over that fact.
Indeed, it's on BBC News too now, so max publicity biggrin

Plenty of bread everywhere. It's the lack of eggs that seems a bit puzzling - are the chickens on a go-slow ?
Chickens tend not to lay as much in the winter - was having this conversation with an ex egg producer yesterday. We also get a lot of eggs from France etc (very cheap, which is why they got out of the business in the UK). As the summer kicks in, we'll have loads.
Majority of hens are kept in heated sheds so should be able to keep supply at this time of year.

Believe it or not though, people are now buying eggs, cracking them into a container and then storing them in their freezer.

It's just the latest 'craze' to join the never ending list of things people want to hoard. It's a pandemic with clear plans in place to continue food supply. This is not, I repeat not, a nuclear winter. But people are engaging nuclear winter strategies in their shopping!

I wont use the word idiots as that's unfair. Its scared people doing stupid things.

My sister put it on WhatsApp about freezing eggs. I asked her if she thinks the hens are going to die of Corona virus. She said duh, of course not.

So why are you freezing eggs?

Just in case.

In case of what?

In case they are all sold out.

Just another self fulfilling prophecy....

Panicking and desperate in what way? I'm sat here working from home. I am concerned and preparing for what's coming ahead, but there is no panic from me. What a strange assessment.

You're trusting your government implicitly and absolutely. You're assuming a high level of competence in the government. You said something along the lines of "nothing the government could have done would have stopped the spread of Corona". I then went on to give a list of examples of things that the government could obviously have done to achieve that, or to reduce the number of deaths. This is based on very basic science and evidence from other countries ahead of us. You instead suggest I am "desperate and panicking".

We should absolutely be cherry picking things that have worked elsewhere.

I admire your absolute confidence in our government, I suppose that sort of blind patriotism could be helpful in some scenarios.
