Feel free to unleash hell on this soapbox thread

I cannot describe in a public forum the hate I have for the man, his principles, his ideals

what goes on in the mans head is a mystery to us all, but the word greed crop up a lot

He will be credited for single handedly ripping the heart from British motoring as a mode of daily transportation

Eh? When he got the job fuel duty was 57.19p per litre. Today it stands at 57.95p per litre. In August 2012 it will increase to 60.95p per litre.

That's a 3.76p per litre increase in just under 2 1/2 years. No one likes that, but in real terms he will still have cut it. Of course, that doesn't take into account the increase in VAT.

He has also only raised VED in line with inflation.

Compared to Darling & Brown and the Conservative chancellors from the 90's he is positively the motorists' friend.

I didnt think the thread was too bad. Removing some of the labour bad stuff, increasing th epersonal allowance, and 7% tax on very rich houses isnt bad, is it??

Look what he had to start with. We were nearly bankrupt. Anyone going from there is going to have it tough.#
And besides, at least he isnt ed balls...

Of course you would prefer the increases that darling Darling pencilled in when it was evident he would be kicked out of office

Whilst Im no fan of the boy George...my local Tory MP threw me out of a house meeting he was holding for questioning him closely on when was the boy going to start showing he was upto the job...I would like to know what you think his ideas and principles are that are so objectionable?

I ask this in the context of what I wrote above. Ive been thrown out of a meeting for asking about his competency, what the hell are his ideas and principles?

I would give him he benefit of the doubt here...What else can he do to keep us happy and still balance the books? It is not like he wants to alienate the motorists votebase...its a juggling act and it looks like all parties have gained something and lost something. I dont think there is a single section of society that are losers alone...its all give and take for everyone.

All criticism to be directed to care of the last labour government. They spent all the money and then some on building and retrenching a client state.

He's doing the best possible with a bad lot and the constraints that the lib dems are.

To be fair you are still on the express train to default.
- You’ll still be spending over 20% more than you are earning from taxes.
- You’ve closed the deficit by less than 5% of what would be needed to break even last year.

Of course you can't just charge 20% more tax or you'll go into cyclical depression but you won't be able to kick the can 20 years down the road either to break even on your budget. Still long odds that the UK will default but you certainly know how to paint yourselves into a corner wink.

It doesn't help that he has to keep the LibDems happy although I'm not sure how much more radical he would be if he had a free rein - we may never know.

Why hasn't the benefits bill been brutally slashed? Osborne is certainly not up to the job (aided by Duncan-Smith...)

Is that take really the direction to take while unemployment is climbing? The problem is that if it causes social unrest the cost of those may exceed savings made. With 8.4% unemployment and much higher amongst younger age groups there is the real potential for crime to increase rapidly as claimants are forced to look for other income sources (if you think social welfare is expensive look at imprisonment!).

That's nice for you, but if it's just about you hating him perhaps the lounge would be more appropriate. If you've got political or economic reasons for your blind rage, please include them so we can see why you're so emotional. smile

So he's cut the top rate of tax but lowered the 40% threshhold? So more of the working middle class get to pay more tax but the ultra high earners pay less? Or have I misunderstood?

What's in it for the people earning £100k to £150k? Or more than that, even?
