No - but flying them and using them on products may be subject to other kinds of restrictions.

They are in the public domain and are fine to be used. IIRC there is a guideline about the use of flags but if you break it does not constitute an offence.

ETA: as Eric MC said, you can't fly the Union Jack flag and say made in Britain if it is not.

in this day and age quite a lot. remember people are suckers for things like food miles so if you look at it on that angle (rather than say quality as i guess you are referring) then its worth a premium in the price. iguess it depends on the product and the market, know your market will pay more for a "made in britain" tag and you can reap the rewards...

As Pablo says, there is still a market for "British Made" products (not only in the UK) so slapping a Union Flag on a product could confer a big advantage from a marketing point of view.

Or to avoid political embarrassment: e.g. SNP ordering Saltires from China. Just don't get caught!

Really?

I just can't imagine some back-street Mumbai sweatshop knocking out hooky merchandise that thinks "we need to associate this crap with a country well known for it's quality goods" - and then sticking a Union Flag on their wares.

These days, surely the rising sun would be a better bet?
