Please Sir, can i have some more?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7982056.stm

Aparently, the benefits given out are not enough to cover basic food requirements as the cost of food as shot up over the last few months

ANNUAL FOOD PRICE RISES
Rice - up 81%
Pork sausages - up 51%
Mince - up 22%
Milk - up 14%

now, before i shout get a job if you want more cash. is this true? Being out of the UK i have not noticed the food price increase? How much has your weekly shop gone up?

Yes. In 2007 I could get a weekly shop for about £55.

Now My wife does the shopping and she gets a weekend's shopping for about £80.

Ah yes good old child poverty again

Well if the underclass spent my fking money on the kids instead a telly bigger then my fking house then there might not be so much fking child fking poverty. Also if that fat idiot hadn't turned babies into a cash crop for fkwits then maybe just maybe the fkwits would stop having more and more fking kids you idiot. Paying them more to have mini chavs means we get more bloody mini chavs

That's just about the percentage rise that I've experienced since the end of 2007 in my weekly food shop too.

"child poverty"

Can anyone actually tell me what this means ? it brings images of starving begging rag-clad waifs selling matches in the London fog to my mind but I suspect the definition is something very different.

For example, Child C did not have new trainers thie month, Child C does not have a Nintendo DSi, Child C cannot afford 20 lambert and butler this week.

Am i being cynical or realistic ? Is this yet another Govt. phrase designed to play on your guilt and make you less likely to rise up and complain about the state of the country today because, hey, the Govt care about, like, child poverty.

Despite "recession busting prices" being advertised everywhere I've noticed a lot of price increases in the past year. There's a few long running threads on the forums of moneysavingexpert.com tracking the price hikes, particularly at the worst offender - Tesco. The biggest price hikes that I've noticed have been on fruit and veg (fresh and frozen), nuts/seeds, eggs, meat and fish. I follow a stone age "way of eating" and try to avoid processed foods, grains and dairy, so I tend not to even look at the junk food aisles.

However, prices have also been drastically raised on value/economy products, and many have been phased out altogether or have been reduced in size whilst keeping the size steady. In some cases the price difference between the economy, standard and organic lines are now a few pence, sometimes the premium stuff is now cheaper.

Basically I have to shop specifically for short dated reduced stuff these days to keep in budget.

I am not going to defend Supermarkets as they are there to make a profit despite all the "we care about you fluffy crap they spout"

Two examples I can think of is the price of bread due to a grain shortage last year ,bumper crop and the price stays the same frown

Fuel going through the roof last year ,all the supermarkets blame increased shipping cost on the rises ,well fuel has dropped but the prices haven't(I suspect the suppliers are tied in to deliver at X price anyway what ever the actual cost of fuel)

I have started to look at the price per 100g/ml now rather than the price to packet as it gives you the true cost smile

Much as I hate to say it income support looks like it needs to be raised to cover food rises
