Met/nearly collided with the chap once, don't have a very high opinion of him.
Although I hear he does speak very highly of me.....

Whether he is right or not to be opening a store in this climate is another thing, but he was right on the button with his comment.

Why on earth does the Guardian want to talk everything down ?!

He's another Fred Goodwin. He avoids paying taxes by living in Monaco so that he can throw lavish parties like Louis IV of France.

Personally I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. First up against the wall when the revolution comes....

Regards

Andy

He's a UK resident I think. Isn't his wife a resident of Monaco?

Are you a bit jealous?

He has paid more in tax in a year than you will in your lifetime.

Do you think he has a better service for this?

Personally I think it's a good thing that people stick one to the media (especially the guardian) at times like this.

About as much as my wife is jealous of Jade Goody.

I pay a bigger percentage of my earnings than him even though he can afford more. He doesn't even pay council tax.

Your last sentence is just random key presses on the keyboard.

Fair point on what percentage of tax he probably pays on his personal income - but I don't understand why such a dislike?

He runs shops, nobody is forced to shop in them so surely he's made what he has fairly and squarely with the help of some very good accountants?

Ok then, let’s run this little argument of yours to ground a bit shall we?

Imagine just for a minute that Sir Philip took notice of what you said and decided enough was enough and decided to dispose of part or all of his considerable business empire, one which employs many thousands of people across the land.

Consider if you will what the overall contribution to the Exchequer is of each and every person he employs and indeed the tax contributions of all of his businesses each and every year and then go and criticise the bloke for not doing his bit for the national purse.

Sorry old pal but if Sir Philip fancies living abroad and avoiding a spot of personal taxation good luck to the bloke, it is fair to say his contribution outweighs pretty much every other person in this country.

Let’s face it; what he said about the heinous communist w—k rag that is the Grauniad is hardly slanderous now is it?

The last sentence is a sentence therefore can't be random "key presses".

He has paid more tax than you, so don't you think he should get more for his money.

If I was buying a car for £100 I would expect a lot less than if I was paying £10,000. Why not for taxes? Or do you think people should be punished for success?
Times interview from last March said:
His businesses are in his wife’s name, and she is a Monaco resident.

It is not in Green’s nature to duck the tough questions - he just fights his corner more loudly. “I am a UK taxpayer,” he says, pounding the chewing gum. “Let me help you for the 25th time . . . I left England in 1998 because I’d had a heart scare in 1995 and wanted to take some time out.”

So when he bought BHS in 2000, and Arcadia in 2002, he struck a deal with his wife that he would come over to run them, but the family would stay in Monaco, because his kids were settled. He now rents a flat in a hotel here, and commutes.

And his companies pay millions of pounds in corporation tax and Vat, he gives millions to charity, his retail academy is already churning out trainees. And the £1 billion and more in dividends Mrs Green has drawn attract the same rate of tax that any foreign investor in a British company would pay.

Why? is he an elected individual, is he in charge of your pension. It's a meritocracy buddy and if you want a ferrari then tuck in.....Otherwise, buy the Guardian and a Prius and ps off
