Thought of this thread this morning - a father was talking on BBC1 about his 6 year old son being knocked over by a car whilst cycling on a cycle path. He was wearing a go-pro and the censored footage is a hard watch. I couldn't find anything on the BBC website but the video footage is in this article:

Drug driver, clearly should be locked up.https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/noah-herring-ha...
Now made it's way into the Express. Many outraged commenters.

That's pretty harsh. In the OP video, the obstruction was the width of the track - so at some point the obstruction needed to be overcome.
In this video, the obstruction way on the cyclists side, he should have slowed down to allow the motorist to pass the obstruction first, which would then have avoided the "pinch".
The police even pick this up on their twitter post
This nonsense is getting ridiculous.

This thread is really proving what a good idea having helmet cameras on you is.
Think I’ll order one.
Yep, everyone will be filming everyone and keeping their lawyers in constant work and on speed dial. I'm sure we have a term for that. Ah yes, 'a Think I’ll order one.
Not sure a camera would help much when you're lying dead in the gutter however.

As well as being given five points on his licence, the driver was fined £417, sparking uproar from motoring campaign groups, which claimed that the driver had done nothing wrong.
'Idiotic' decision
The Alliance of British Drivers said the decision was an “idiotic” one “that undermines the credibility of the courts and the police”…

And why should we have to share roads with serial driving criminals anyway? They still have the freedom to harm us and our property. How about we deal with the issue properly once and for all, instead of doing nothing until someone is killed?
You could argue for another 100 pages on what we should or should not have to deal with in an ideal world, I suspect it will not be a productive use of time. However, and just a thought: it is probably worth making decisions and acting accordingly based on the reality rather than some kind of imaginary perfect world scenario.
For me, cycling off road seems a lot nicer and far more interesting than constantly dealing with conflict, pollution and the close passes that are oft spoken about on these threads. Ymmv of course if you have no sense of self preservation.
