should be interesting day tomorrow with hopefully some sng news and def some AA news. fingers crossed!
I’ve gone from being excited about AA to being nervous... I’m keeping everything crossed..

Thankfully the LSE board have let me know that Saga will triple bag (at the very least) tomorrow, should help counteract any losses on AA..

The times had a piece about Capita today - summary was ‘avoid’ pah, what do they know... they should get back to exposing slave traders... actually, maybe just stop reporting for a while... advertise some fake tan or something instead...
I would love it if the Gaurdian retracte the article from Friday and sang the praises of Boohoo.
I dipped in on Fri pm shortly after the news came out and this is now my largest (monetary terms) 'gamble' holding - fortunately the SP was above purchase price and I'm looking for recovery back to 300+ then 400+

If saga triples, I'd be happy.
If it doubles I'd be happy
If it recovers 10% and I get my inital stake back, i'd be happy.

I'd use that to buy some IDP, cos the OP said we will all be on a trip to Vegas as this will come good to the PH gamble massif (OK, he didn't say that, but that is what my reading of it was).

AA - still showing positive on that, so any uptick would be a bonus.

Now if TILS, and that madman JB could buck up ideas and help me rid that heavy burden that I am carrying in my kids JISA, it would be great smile
If the AA gets bought out at a decent shareprice, then I’ll probably put the proceeds into IDP and/or RBG. If the sp is decimated, I’ll just go drinking at RBG...

I’m now connected to a few of the bar managers on LinkedIn, good to see regular updates from them about bars opening across their estate. They’ve just extended eat out to help out into September as well...

If the IDP sp isn’t significantly up in 6 months time, I’ll pay for a Vegas trip for all PH IDP gamblers - how’s that for confidence? smile *

I'm expecting a big move on CINE first thing. Will hit 80p at least. Wish I'd gone all in at 33p..its not as though it hasn't multi bagged once already this year.

Wish I’d averaged down When it was 30p a few weeks ago but I was nursing a big loss back then. In profit now but hoping it’ll double in 6 months. Gla
‘Investors with appetite for material risk’, I’m sure on the first copy of that text they actually named the PH Gamblers thread... smile

My big gamble?

Probably continuing to be prudent, debt averse and still foolishly believing that hard work pays and you should live within your means.... in a world where the feckless, the workshy, the spivs and speculators, the spendthrifts, the over leveraged debt junkies and ten bob millionaires all get continuously encouraged and rewarded and then protected and bailed out when they do get out of their depth.
Dad?

Possibly but it's uncanny, all in all a very shrewd assessment of my approach to investment, it's as if he was aiming that comment at me personally: "... in a world where the feckless, the workshy, the spivs and speculators, the spendthrifts, the over leveraged debt junkies ...".
I think all of us read it in our fathers voice and looked a little guilty!
If he had finished by saying “go and play in front of the fking buses, you useless piece of st”, then it would definitely have been my dad.

IDP - Is it too late to jump on the IDP bandwagon? What's the story there?
I continue to buy shares in them - they have a number of good brands which will hopefully grow profitably over the next few years, some execution challenges that should get addressed soon.

Company is (in my opinion) undervalued - obviously impacted by retail numbers being down and less people going out.

Quite an interesting day.

A bunch of shares significantly down and a bunch of shares significantly up - not too many just treading water.

Unfortunately it would appear there were more significantly down than up!

The big loser of the day £ wise for me was RBG - didn’t realise how down it was until after the market shut.

Pete - could you buy in and then sell please? smile

Ouch - oh well, at least I can hold my head up high in the 20%’rs club!

Good morning so far - up just shy of 3%, driven in part by good gains in Capita and RBG. Have bought more RBG, probably should have waited till later..

Day started off great, then gains were reduced to zero during the afternoon. Had better days, had much much worse.

Some good bits of advice on the trading front, although obviously anyone who takes financial advice from randoms on a thread on an internet motoring forum entitled “What’s your biggest gamble?” probably shouldn’t be managing their own money. smile

My approach is to invest in companies with a high risk reward profile - ignoring mostly the steady eddies with their strong balance sheets and dividend payouts - instead going for stocks that I think could 5x over the next year or so.

In the extreme, I’ve gone for companies with poor execution capabilities and reputation (e.g Capita) ; or companies that are unloved by the markets due to the level of debt they carry. (AA)

At the more “sensible” end, I’ve gone for companies that have been hit the hardest by Covid - Revolution Bars, Cineworld, Gym, etc.

Completely understand that some of these may fail, however, hopefully enough will succeed to outweigh the failures.

Then I’ve got a few that I just believe are substantially undervalued - e.g. IDP, Boo, BWNG, etc.

I’ve also got some Covid pharma stocks - haven’t got too many and have generally been late to the party but 4d, Skin, MWG and Fum have worked out well. Thanks to everyone who tipped those!

My only nod to safety is around the numbers of companies invested in and also the range of sectors, it is definitely high risk high reward though - if it works out then there should be great upside, if it doesn’t then... oh well... off down Revs to drown my sorrows.

Delighted to note that 500Miles banging on the door of a closed WHSmith Motorway services shop a couple of months ago has had the desired effect on our 2nd favourite (but my favourite) newsagent.

Having done nothing but decline since that great day the 8th June when everything peaked, it hit a low of 914p on 6th August but has steadily gone up 35% in the last month to 1237.
Considering it's Feb price was double that, it still has a long way to go and I'm still negative on it having bought in June but only by about 50p now which it could make up in a couple of days fingers crossed. (cue collapse of SP)

Just needs more people stopping off to buy sweets on the way to CINE rather than pay their inflated prices wink
Just checked and I’m up 43% on them - not bad for a company that usually comes top of the “Worse retail shops” list smile

I think they run about 40 M&S franchises as well, with half those in hospitals - won’t make up for the revenue decline in their main shops but every little helps...

I love the fact that most of their shop assistants in the high street stores couldn’t be more helpful, whilst the ones at the airport seem to treat you like you’ve killed their first born son.

I don’t think there is any shame buying some sweets from Smiths and then topping up on popcorn once you get to the cinema..

Let’s hope for a better week this week.

I’m half considering topping up on SKIN this week, blowing hit and cold on the idea.

Might also top up on RBG - market research (one lunch time in one bar) shows good trading...

Amigo looks like it could be interesting, according to the LSE..

What’s everyone else buying?

I've bought in to SKIN too. I had a good week last week after buying VAL early in the week. Just need to decide when to cash out! Been following the thread for a while first time posting. Thanks for all the information, much appreciated.
Welcome to the thread!

Val’s having a good run - shame I’m not in!

Speculation Petra Diamonds is in talks with a potential buyer I think is the reason for interest.

I have a friend who bought a couple of years ago at 40p!
40p? Holy cow I can’t even do the maths what percentage loss that is.
138p three years ago! They were an early tip on this thread, I held for a while, they did nothing so sold long ago.

There is a lesson here for all of us that hold AIM stock. PDL was 138p three years ago and 1.2p this year. That can happen to any of the AIM nonsense we invest in. I think a lot of the covid relates stocks are going to plummet badly within the next year when the few winners surface.
Are you saying it could be a 100 bagger???

Who says I only hear what I want to hear? smile
