Barclays Bank - Useless

Steer Clear ladies n gents what an absolutely diabolical mess for a bank.
Car is broken so off it went into A garage for repairs. Whilst at the garage I thought Ill sort the funds out. Logged onto online banking with my card details (i have them saved). Went to transfer the money to my main bank account as ATM is miles away for Barclays so thought transfer to Natwest as machine over the road. Put card in PINSentry (Card reader) and entered my PIN wrong 3 times. My bad, whoops. Not a Card I use often at all. Only way to transfer cash is to use this stupid Pin Sentry machine. Great. So phoned them up nope cant do anything you have to go to nearest branch. Great. Its in town center and I'm other end of the city so there isnt one local really nor a cash machine for them.

Gets a phone call from Barclays - Oh you could use your mobile app to transfer the cash. Excellent puts phone down and does just that. ERROR your account is blocked. Great. So cant use that either - turns out my account is not compatible with Mobile App.
Long story short - got a slow walk home until I can get to the branch in the morning. Your telling me a bank - only has one way for you to get money out and if you cock it up thats it unless you can visit a local branch ? No good if you live no where near a machine or branch which unfortunately... I dont.

Its a complete farce. Natwest, if my card doesnt work or PIN is forgotten who cares thats your card... login online with completely different credentials and all is well u can do what you like.
The details are separate as they are for Barclays, Ive authenticated and verified my Identity. So let me have my sodding cash!

i did have a complaint with them and they paid me 120 quid for failing to help me with my problem, so not all bad really.
Not bad, its causing me a major headache. To top it off local branch closes at 4PM..... Great Im at work till 6. i use pin sentry and online banking. never put my pin in wrongly thou, you have to take some responsibility for that.

Agree about PIN number but its seldom used this card as usually we pay into it and not take monies out but the one time we do use it for that purpose I've now got stuck. Very true but something you dont use you dont always remember and the amount of passwords and other pins I have Its no wonder I sometimes forget. Surely there should be something in place so if you do forget you can still transfer money - I can login online no problem so why not let me use the online banking for what it was intended for.
The fact they have security measure in place is no problem, its the fact that I can still log on to online banking, but because my PIN on my card was entered incorrectly means my account is essentially in locked down mode. Why not make it a separate system like Natwest. Lose your card you can still use online banking, forget your pin you can still move money around. I have no problem with it being secure but they could at least help me, Ive been on the phone to them and proved to them who I was so why not let me move money around ?
LOL its stupid when there is only one way to get money out of my account. Phone banking would be great but guess what ... requires the PIN number. All I'm saying is I dont mind the account being locked but give me more than one way to move money around instead of relying on one method.
Sorry Edit: The Phone banking is tied to the App, which I cant use on my Account. As its not compatible.

OK, Yeah ill just walk 6 miles to the nearest branch at 6PM bearing in mind it closes at 4PM so what use would that be ? - Well why couldnt they opearte another procedure over the phone - ive locked my card out apparently not my entire account but everything is tied to the card. Rubbish Idea. Let me phone you, prove who I am, and let me make a transfer over the phone. HELL- they even authenticated me by using VOICE Recognition!! So they could prove it was me. What other way would you like to see introduced?

One of the options over the phone is to authenticate you via voice recognition which they did. So unless I'd been kidnapped and someone recording me answering questions to get into a savings account.. Things like Mothers Maiden name is asked also of which I have completely made up a name and no chance of a Fraudster guessing it. My wife doesnt even know what it is and I've told no one the "Over the phone" details.TooMany2cvs said:

Agree completely.. but I have confirmed who I am several times. Via Voice recognition AND Answers to questions which I only know the answers too.I work in IT, so I see on a regular basis that accounts have been hacked etc due to viruses or someone giving away information etc so I agree that there should be safeguarding in place - but when someone forgets some details and ends up locking out the account then surely there should be a system in place whereby something can still be done if you can prove who you are.
Other than visiting a branch that when com closing time of my work will be closed. As it closes at 4:30 PM and no chance I can get away early.

Voice recognition/fingerprint/etc on phone/mobile devices will always be a 'level 1' authentication in that you can view basics like balance/transactions. They are not secure enough to make transactions hence the need for a PIN or similar.
It's hardly the banks fault that you have forgotten your pin/falsified your security answers and don't want to go to the branch.
I'll quite happily go to the branch... It opens at 9:30 AM and Closes at 4:30PM - During which I am at work and can probably only get out for 30 mins at lunch. It'll take me approx 45 mins to get to the local branch. I work Saturdays too 9 till 3. Branch closes at 4 On Saturday by the time I get there it will be closing. My weekday hours are 8:30 till 5 sometimes 6PM.It's hardly the banks fault that you have forgotten your pin/falsified your security answers and don't want to go to the branch.

Again I completely agree. This is why I was pissed off. Yes I forgot my PIN whoops, unlucky. My beef is they offer other services such as the App and Phone banking but my account isnt compatible ? Thats not my fault. Had I been aware that this was the case I would of taken more care to remember the PIN.To be fair - When I setup the account - I was told I could use online banking and my card would work like any other. Its durong the life of the account when it has all changed - and I have not been told about it. I have not received emails or letters about the facts. Its a 'Savings' account. It doesnt have a cash card the card is apparently for paying in and withdrawing ONLY from Barclays ATM's.
