I had similar in the front garden. I took the trees down with a chainsaw as close to the ground as possible and then had a contractor come in with a stump grinder to take them down just below ground level. I planted a hedge in its place. You’ll make a mighty mess trying to rip the stumps out and it will be difficult with the length of the roots.

This took about an hour or two of stump grinding after it was cut down lower, couldn't believe how wide the base was. Smaller stumps like the one's pictured above were gone in minutes as the wood is quite soft.
