Chainsaw or not...... ?

Regularly use an old stihl 026 to cut stuff like this, no problems, on the thinner stuff it rips more than cuts but is a lot quicker than pissing about with lopper/pruners etc. No more than 10 minutes work there.

I had a go at using my electric chainsaw to reduce the height of my privet hedge. The twigs kept jamming the chain and caused it to keep falling off. I eventually gave up and used my long reach hedge trimmer instead.

Its not your hedge so without permission the question of the chainsaw is irrelevant really.

Your fingers are never at risk with a normal chainsaw that a normal person could buy (only with a top-handle, to obtain which you'd need to circumnavigate some pretty hard-&-fast rules/pull the wool to purchase)
