Is it not really fairly loud all the time?

It is noisy, but it's not any louder than when you squeeze the trigger of the electric washer, or the petrol lawn mower. However, I turn it off if I'm not going to press the trigger for a long period as it's very easy to start despite my weak arm, and I use a pair of ear defenders.

I've got a k7 about 2 years old. Broken and repaired twice under warranty. I wouldn't buy one again. Met a chap at bbq while ago who was a marketing manager for karcher. Said it was all junk apart from the hds kit.
