Recently moved house and it has new induction hob in the kitchen.

The hob controls go from 0-9 but on any setting below 8 (ie 7,6,5,4...) it seems like it's turning on and off.
If your simmering something it boils then stops, boils then stops etc.

I've only had one other induction hob before, a Miele, this one is from Comet so a bit cheaper!

I don't want the landlord to change it if it's just something cheaper hobs do but if it's faulty then I'd like to know before it stops working.

Ours does that (de dietrich) - it clicks on and off, and can sometimes boil, stop, boil, stop like you describe if you have a small amount of liquid in a pan. I think (hope!) it's normal.

It's probably not faulty but may be one of the early versions which were less sophisticated when it came to controlling temperature.

Assuming it's your property and considering you'll be using it on a daily basis change it for a new version from a leading brand.

Andy - thanks for the reply and I'm glad that mine isn't the only one.

Pfer - not our house and if it's not faulty then I don't want the landlord to have the expense of replacing it.
Your comment about early versions makes sense, but the hob was brought and installed the day before we moved in 8 weeks ago.........as the hob is from Comet I'd say that is the problem.

If it's not faulty then it's a 'feature' I can live with.

I have an 2004 vintage Siemens and it does the same .... it also goes to a setting above 9 which is P and thus becomes supercharged

Perfectly normal and not to do with age or quality. I have a 2 yr old Neff i.h., expensive and quite modern, and that does the same.

Best thing I ever did was get an i.h. Just superb.

er, well we have a 1 yr old neff and it does not do that - whatever temp you set it to the boiling is consistent - as someone said earlier it may be down to the age of the hob itself.

We have a top of the range, 6 weeks old. It's the same. Doesn't take too long to get used to.

Edited to say we have a P setting too. It's great - like flooring the Griff in 3rd. smile

Our ikea one doesn't do this, smooth temp gains up the scale.

I wish it went to 11 though wink

I have this

http://www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/t44t97n0/neff-...

And it doesn't alternate between on/off cycles on lower outputs as described. It's extremely controllable.

Wife reports ours does that but only when you have more than one hob turned on. With one on, she's saying its constant. (And wondering why the hell I'm asking odd questions about the Cooker!)

2008 Siemens Touchslide here - it does the same. However it's not noticeable as lower power settings as the buzz is only audible above 7. The visible boiling is constant though.
