So as part of my kitchen diner build http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... i had lined up a pretty decent Bosch fridge freezer http://ao.com/product/kin85af30g-bosch-serie-8-fri... but i was only paying £710 for it as part of a staff discount i get through work.

However i've been told now that it's not coming back into stock until WC 28th which is pretty tight for my deadline of when the kitchen is going to be done so i'm looking at other options and have come across an AEG model on AO for £650 but i have zero experience with brands or what brands are like.

A quick google shows that they are part of Electrolux which do Zanussi but i don't know any more about them and don't know whether to stick it out and get the Bosch one when it comes into stock next week and have it be the last thing that gets installed. Comparing the both the AEG i think just pips the Bosch for functionality and features but again not sure about reliability, parts and labour if anything goes wrong, etc.

Here is the AEG one http://ao.com/product/scn51810s0-aeg-fridge-freeze...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've got an AEG tumble drier that's been going strong for 10 years now. In my totally subjective opinion with no evidence at all to back it up, I'd put them alongside Bosch and Siemens, and a step above Indesit and Hotpoint.

AEG ... part of electrloux used to have terrible customer service. It was almost impossible to get hold of them and when you did, they were next to useless with help. Because of a particular bad two hour (I kid you not) phone call of which I was on hold for 1 hour 55 minutes of, I swore I would never recommend them to customers again, and I still don't.

Things may have moved on, but it left a very very bitter taste with me.

No experience of their fridge freezers but if you're just after opinions of the brand as a whole, our experience has been fairly positive over the years. The display module on the old oven went, but it was 10 years old by that point. The oven still worked, just couldn't use the timer functionality. We could have replaced the module but it wasn't a lot extra to simply replace the oven.

Our AEG dishwasher is still going strong and has been in daily use for about 12 years with no issue.

It's going to break down tomorrow now isn't it. wink

Incidentally, I noticed these people have that model fridge/freezer for £579 and offer 5% off with code M16BLACKFIVE. No connection with them, don't know if they're reputable or not: https://www.secondtek.com/aeg-scn51810s0-integrate...

Thanks for all the advice so far.

It was really about the brand as a whole. I don't want something that is going to last 4 years, pack up on me and then be a pain in the royal arse to get repaired and it be the same cost as another new fridge freezer! Sounds like i can save myself £60 then smile.

Got two combined washer/dryers with AEG. Never, ever let us down in all the years we've had them!

AEG washer now 8 yrs old & never been a problem, AEG hammer drill 32 yrs old, still enough poke to do any drilling I need! I think it`s pretty good stuff. I hope they haven`t shifted production way out east.

OK sounds good. I'm tempted to wait for black Friday as you never know it might be even cheaper!

I rate all my AEG to other brands like Siemens, Bosch etc. Wouldn't hesitate to buy AEG and mostly look at that brand first when buying something new.
Everything AEG I've bought over the years is still going, albeit I've given them away.

As somebody else has mentioned, they are basically Electrolux.

A few years back I was working at one of their sites so had the chance to buy appliances at very cheap prices.

I thought I would buy the AEG branded kit as maybe it was a bit more upmarket, quite the opposite, 2 fridges failed and the washing machine was dire , wouldn't touch any machines from the group now.

AEG used to be a respected brand, when they were a German owned company.

However, they're now just a brand stuck onto generic Electrolux products - often at a premium over other brands owned by the group.

Shame, as they were a Miele alternative, now they're worse than Beko.

I'd wait for the bosch...every AEG appliance we've had in the past few years, with the exception of the coffee machine, has been a bit pants. We've replaced everything with siemens and they are superb, the bosch range is the same internals.

DAMN YOU!!!!! I knew someone would say this to me lol. My builder is wanting to get it all installed next week so having to wait for it is mega risky I think!

My parents' AEG washing machine is still going well after the better part of 20 years. I'm very happy with ours after just over a year.

So to summarise: some say AEG are good, some say they're ok, some say they're rubbish.

Glad we cleared that one up. wink
