So after this COVID period and having my family at home constantly, I need an external office to keep the kids and wife away.

I’m wanting to build a 15ft by 10ft wooden outhouse. Plan is concrete base, wooden frame, insulation, cladding outside, plasterboard interior with power.

I was thinking 2x3 to build the frame, 2x6 for the roof straps, fibre wool insulation.

Has anyone completed anything similar? If so, any hints/tips and am I on the right lines with materials?

Also, rough costs for completion? All works completed by myself so no labour costs.

Cheers in advance.

£3k ish I think. Use thicker wood than you think or the roof will bow and leak and piss you off. So get 6x2 or 8x2 depending on gap to centres. Build on brick short wall

Here’s mine

Yep... we built one which is soundproof and it cost us about 6k for materials.

We used 89mm for the walls and 120mm for roof joists. I’ve got a complete spec sheet somewhere. EPDM roof.

There was a superb thread on here a year or so back of a tremendous build in quite a modest garden. It was too notch and he put it up in quick time for next to no spend.

I’m afraid I can’t find the thread but hopefully someone smarter recalls it and can find it.

Possibly one of these, which I thought were terrific, well-documented and a mine of useful info:

An outhouse is an outside toilet to many people so be careful there.

I was wondering how he was going to move a 15x10ft outhouse when the pit was full ? hehe

Thanks. It was the first one I was referring to. I thought it contained an impressive level of detail and quality.

I hadn’t seen 4Qs so thanks for that also.
