Anyone proficient with LED rope wiring?
Discussion
Finally got round to looking at some Christmas LED rope lights where one part of it isn't working.
Each part of the light (4 different LED rope sections) has its own power take off. And the power input to the section is (was!) moulded in. There was a duff connection in that bit somewhere.
Cut the moulded bit off, but the 2 wires in the end of the rope disappeared into the sheath of it.
The way these seem to be made is that there's a line of LEDs down the centre of the rope, some insulation, and then 2 power wires (+ and -) run down the wall of the rope. I'm assuming they got to the bottom of the rope and connect to the LEDs at the bottom somehow?
Anyway, I cut down the rope to get access to the power wires (exposed successfully)., but one of the LEDs down the centre of the rope only has one wire/leg connected to anything (the next LED down - they all seem to be daisy chained).
Does anyone have any idea where the second LED leg should be connected? Have searched for wiring diagrams but to no avail.
(And yes, I entirely agree that I should just throw that section in the bin. But it's a challenge
).

Dunno but I can tell you this. LEDs need + and -, and they don't work the wrong way round. It doesn't harm them, but they MUST be powered the correct polarity to work. Each part of the light (4 different LED rope sections) has its own power take off. Some LED controllers alternate + and - to flash LED ropes.

Ta,Some LED controllers alternate + and - to flash LED ropes.
Was aware of polarity.
I have some small croc-clip leads that I've been trying various combos on but can't get it to light.
I was assuming the circuit must be something like the following (black/red dotteds could be swapped)...the LED nearest the PSU has one leg free...the third or fourth LED seems to have a resistor in line too.
Googling seems to show some LED rope lights have dotted type connections at various points down the length to allow rope to be cut (which I'm assuming is why ropes are made with "rails" down the full length, to allow take offs?).
Will have another look tomorrow.
