Log burner flu seal replacement

Not sure how to describe this so please bear with me.

So I have a log burner and a flu obviously, there is (was) like a fibre/rope seal wound around the inside of the flu where it meets the top of the log burner exit (I guess), it had started to dangle down a few inches at the end of the cord which I could wedge back up between the gap between the two surfaces.

Roll forward a few weeks and I can hear a chirping sound coming from the log burner and upon inspection there is no sign of the cord between the two, I suspect the OH has basically removed it when cleaning and thought nothing of it.... To make matters worse she is on holiday currently and we cann only speak when she can get on some WiFi, so I am waiting for her to confirm if my assumption is correct.

Ultimately I need to replace this cord, but what the heck is it and how would I go about wrapping it around into the gap without having to dismantle the whole thing, I wouldn't do that as it goes through the roof and would need a pro installer to sort out at that level.

I've seen I could use a sealant, I guess a bit like silicone but high temp 550C, would this do?

Look for glass rope seal. Get the appropriate size and wedge in. I usually back mine up with fire cement.

It’s fire rope; available online or from a local supplier if you have one. It’s best to get the “kit” that includes the glue too (assuming you fancy replacing it yourself).
