I'm having an external on external rotary isolator fittrd.

I've got 5mm T&E cable run from the consumer unit to an external junction box, on the outside of the house.

Can I replace the junction box with a Rotary Isolator?

Or must SWA be run from the junction box to a Rotary Isolator?

An electrician is doing the work. Just want to make sure I'm not asking him something that makes him think that I am a complete turnip!

Thanks.

As long as the rotary isolator is IP rated for outdoor use, and rated for the current, then it should not be an issue. T&E is usually 4mm or 6mm.

SWA is needed if the cable is in a vulnerable position, ie underground. Is the T&E from the CU run indoors? Or does it run externally?

Thank you.

I'm guessing T&E must be 4mm in that case. As with calipers it measures 2.5mm with the plastic sheath around the wire.

The T&E is run indoors.
It then pops out onto an external wall, where it is currently capped and housed in a IP65 junction box.

I would like to
- remove the junction box
- have the T&E to go straight into the IP65 Rotary Isolator

Thanks.

I'm sure that will be ok, but the sparks will confirm.

What are you going to use it for? What size circuit breaker is on it at the CU? The cable size is sometimes stamped on the side, the measurement is the cross sectional area of the copper, not the diameter.

Cable and breaker were done for 30A. Which is what it'll be used for..

Thanks

Do you mean 32A, or is it a very old board and therefore 30A? A photo of the board would be useful.
