Near to me a part built 4 bed has finally come up for auction, (shell is complete and watertight) has been stood 'as is' for approx 3 years, it does however have a morbid history, the chap that was building it comitted suicide inside the building, would it put you off buying?

The property... https://www.whoobid.co.uk/accueil/auction/6132

If it was what I was looking for, in an area I was looking at and at the correct price it's past history would not concern me.

I assume, OP, you are familiar with the local market?

What would be your max bid?

(then I can offer £5 more!0

Wouldn't bother me, especially if I was planning to spend a long time there. Nice amount of land.

I wonder what percentage of houses have had a death inside.. probably a majority especially once they’re a few decades old

That said, I did live in a house where the previous resident had hanged himself, and we did used to hear footsteps in and voices in the middle of the night. We moved in the end. Good luck with the house.

Mate of mine bought a house close to me where the owners had committed suicide (car in the garage was started up and they were both sat in the front seats) It was in the middle of summer and they were there for a couple of weeks before found

It was on the same estate as my house at the time - in fact I could see the garage from one of the bedroom windows.

He eventually bought it and called it "Toggam House" I'm sure I don't need to explain why

Interesting question, I'd imagine lots of houses have had a death inside but how far do you go, I suppose someone would have bought Fred Wests house if it was cheap enough.

I rented a house once and some guy stabbed his wife to death about 20 houses down, lovely house and plot and that sold straight away after a deep clean of the kitchen.

To my mind, why not - it wasn't the house that did it.

The previous owner of the house died in the front room. Doesn't bother me as it's a lovely house in a great area, but of all the rooms in the house it's the coldest.
Superstitious friends tell me about sprints not passing over etc
I put it down to being the north side of the house with two exposed walls and a open chimney.

Think the West house was demolished wasn’t it?

This.

The previous owner of my house died here (of old age). The elderly woman who use to be my neighbour died in her house. The neighbours the other side of me are also elderly and have no plans to move. They may well die there.

It's a sad story for the previous owners but some years ago we bought a two year old house, fully furnished. Regrettably they had died in a plane crash.

Negotiating for various furnishings with their Estate we eventually reached the point where we simply had no more money to offer despite the reasonable prices asked. We just had to draw a line. As it happens, they only removed a fancy dining room set that we didn't need and everything else was still there when we moved in. Some of those items are still in our next home today. Their names were a Mr & Mrs House and some of our furniture still has their name written on the back.

As long as theres a not a chalk outline or a massive blood stain on the carpet when I move in then I would happily buy the house.

It was as was the soham house and a few others where infamous crimes happened.

We were house hunting back in 2021 and had a viewing arranged for a place that ticked a few boxes. Agent disclosed that someone had died there...turns out the owner and a neighbour were murdered on the driveway in some sort of domestic! I could probably have lived with it at the right price, but didn't fancy having to put the kids through the aggro.

I imagine he did it because he lived in Warminster.

We lived for just a couple of years in a house where half of it was 200 years old . We pulled up a load of carpet to find what appeared to be huge areas of blood stains on an original tiled floor .

It was not a house I could ever get comfortable in.
Hope Annie was ok.

It would definitely put me off but only because of the fact you'll find it just as hard to shift if it's well known or easily googleable what happened there!

I saw a documentary about this one recently...

https://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/68899973...

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/live...

One from recent news - been listed since November... Think they will take a while to find a seller, despite the fact it was totally random and had nothing to do with the area or the house at all.
